[HYPOTHETICAL] Would you help NY acquire Carmelo if we get Nene?

Since I'm bored at work I've ran some scenarios through my head and through trade machine (I know it's a crazy combination  ) but what if, instead of trying to acquire another scorer, we end up getting what we need...and then some?

    Houston trade:
    Courtney Lee
    Jordan Hill
    Jared Jeffries
    NY Knicks Pick

    To Denver

    Denver trade:
    Carmelo Anthony

    To New York

    Nene

    To Houston

    New York trade:

    Wilson Chandler
    Eddy Curry
    Draft picks

    To Denver

    Anthony Randolph
    Landry Fields

    To Houston

Why on Earth would Houston do this?

Rather than see Melo end up in a Knick uniform, thereby making our Knicks pick lower in value, we move the pick to Denver to help the Knicks acquire Anthony. We would end up with the defensive center we badly need (Nene), a PF still with high potential (Randolph), and a promising guard (Fields).

    Center: Nene/Miller
    Power Forward: Scola/Randolph/Hayes
    Small Forward: Battier/Williams
    Shooting Guard: Martin/Fields
    Point Guard: Lowry/Brooks

Now that might not be a world beater of a team, but it's a step in the right direction Post-Yao Era. We're definitely not hitting a homerun like acquiring a Carmelo Anthony-caliber player but what we do have a front court size and depth.

Why on Earth would Denver do this?

They move Carmelo to the team he always wanted to go to. They get future 1st Rounders, a pretty good small forward (albeit slightly injured) in Chandler, $18 million in expiring contracts in Curry and Jeffries, a starting-material shooting guard in Lee, and if he pans out, a nice power forward to replace Kenyon Martin in Jordan Hill. If anything else, it also gives Denver bargaining chips in Lee and Hill to make future trades if need be. I would think a combination of:

Draft picks (the Knicks pick originally acquired by Houston and other picks the Knicks could offer)
    Expiring contracts ($18 million worth)
    Young players (Chandler, Lee, Hill)

is better than what the Nets offered (yes, I'm not THAT high on Favors).

    Center: Anderson/Curry
    Power Forward: Martin/Hill
    Small Forward: Chandler
    Shooting Guard: Afflalo/Lee
    Point Guard: Billups/Lawson

Of course if Melo and Nene gets dealt, I'm sure Denver would blow up the whole team so the make up will change. The bottome line is Denver gets back in return what they've been asking for--assets (draft picks), assets (young quality players), and more assets (expiring contracts).

Why on Earth would New York do this?

Do you even have to ask? But in all seriousness,

    1. They only lose Wilson Chandler and Landry Fields out of their regular rotation
    2. They move Curry's contract
    3. They get the team they've been wanting since they lost out on Wade/LeBron

    Center: Turiaf/Mozgov
    Power Forward: Amare
    Small Forward: Anthony/Gallinari
    Shooting Guard: Mason
    Point Guard: Felton

All in all, we don't get the big prize but ending up with Nene, Randolph and Fields isn't all that bad considering what we're sending out.

    *flame suit on*

I like it, but where's Budinger?

And i'm really not that high on Anthony Randolph. He seems like he's going to be Stromile Swift v2.0.

Potential is there, but the bball IQ doesnt seem to be present.

I forgot to put Budinger on the depth chart. :)

Randolph has all the tools to be great (like Stromile did) but he plays harder..well I saw the heart and hustle when he was with Golden State. Still, it's not a bad trade considering we're moving none of our starters to acquire a starting center and two solid role players.

We get Fields and Randolph for the pick and Nene for Lee and expirings? Wow.

I think Denver would be wanting Fields in any kind of deal like that at the very least.

Im all for the rockets taking advantage of what ever trade comes out of denver to get a increase of talent on the rockets roster. Nene - Anthony - JR Smith - maybe even Chauncey Billups - Al Harrington
Billups salary plus age but can still play.

Morey could find a way to grab talent without being on the losing end of the deal I am all for it.

I would join the Carmelo to NY scenerio with the pretense of helping them facilitate a trade. In reality, I would sabatage the deal and take Melo for the Rockets. ;)

Adding Nene would be huge! I would do it in a heartbeat. Melo's probably going to NY anyway.

Being the egomaniac that I am, I rather create a new thread where I can propose a trade with reasoning and thought process than to lump my hypotheticals with trades that makes ZERO sense at all.

Clutch can always move my thread as he sees fit.

Nene is only a second tier center- looks to shoot a high percentage with limited easy shots- Not a Championship Center or they would keep him in Nugs!!! :p

Yes, I would. But not if it costs us Martin and not without getting back both Nene and Anthony Randolph.

Do the Rockets have more role players than any team in the NBA? And we need more?

Well, in defense of my hypothetical trade, we give up

    Jeffries
    Lee
    Hill
    Knicks' pick

    for

    Nene
    Randolph
    Fields

It's not a superstar in return but we turned an 11th man / expiring contract, a decent shooting guard, and a power forward with potential (though I'm not to sure after watching him this season) into a pretty good starting center, a power forward with potential (still high on the guy) and a shooting guard with upside.

Is it a lateral move? Not exactly considering we would get the center we need post-Yao Era.

Is that Knicks pick worth giving up to do this trade? Why not, since Melo to the Knicks can pretty much seal the Knicks a playoff spot

Do we have too many role players? Of course, but if getting Nene this year gives us a better shot at getting a Deron Williams, Chris Paul, or another big FA in 2012, why wouldn't you do it?

    You have Nene at center
You have Scola at Power Forward
You have ______ at Small Forward (blank due to not knowing if Battier stays after this season)
You have Martin at Shooting Guard
You have Lowry at Point Guard

The two places we would need to upgrade would be at SF and PG if the Rockets re-sign Nene in the event he opts out.

There are two players that come to mind for the PG spot: Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

Now with a starting lineup that has Nene, Scola, Martin already in tact, wouldn't that make for an attractive destination for either Williams or Paul?
Adding a PG of either player's talent instantly makes Houston a contender IMO.

THIS IS ALL just forecasting on how trading for Nene, Randolph and Fields without giving up Scola/Martin could be very beneficial in building out a team in a couple of years.

Yeah, great deal for US at least. You know, I was going to call this a dumb idea because we're getting way too much for a high-teens/low-twenties draft pick and our bench players. But then I couldn't figure out any reason for New York or Denver to say no, so I have to at least give you credit for a good read.

I think in the end Denver would want more back for Anthony and Nene than Chandler, a mediocre draft pick, and bench players. It wouldn't happen. But it's at least somewhat in the realm of possibility.

Yes lets make the mods job harder by not following the rules as per 1st page of the trade page and on top of that its a good thing not every Cf think like you or else we'd have so many hypothetical scenarios. just fyi, we get on the fantasy team trading as well.

Like I said, Clutch is a few clicks away from deleting this thread if he wants. He should know by now that I'm not one to start many threads and the ones that I do start at least have some possibilities rather than "Brooks for Derrick Rose or bust!" bullcrap that's in the massive thread.
