The D&D thread about being a sucker for playing it straight got me to thinking: If you wanted to commit a crime for money, what would you do, and how would you do it?

Me: I'd steal the little free-standing ATMs out of convenience stores. As a two man job, it'd be incredibly easy. Hit up an empty convenience store in disguise. One person goes in and somehow keeps the clerk from interfering or calling the cops. The other brings a dolly, loads up the ATM and brings it outside. Both load it into the back of the van/SUV, and take off. You could be in and out within a minute or two.

Stealing a bank ATM is incredibly hard by comparison, as this guy has found.

I just (accidentally) ran a red light. I got away with it.

    /thread.

(There is an icy snow mixture, and it turned red quickly, leaving me without time to stop)

Taking money out of my parents' wallets. Give your kid $5-$10 a week on enigneer's or pharmacist's salary, pay the consequences.

I'll take a reasonable stab at this:

I would say virtually anything that would be a one-man job.

I don't trust people enough to partner up, as would be required in dealing drugs (even if alone, I'd still be buying from someone, somewhere).

I was a damn good thief, once upon a time. I'm fairly certain I could pick it up again were I so inclined.

I've always had an (unhealthy) interest in professional thievery.

Oh crap! I've got to get rid of this one.

Actually, I didn't know that, but I'd think you could manage it. Quickly get it in a building with enough over you, get it open and get the cash, dump the ATM.

What if you wrap the atm in a lead blanket? Wouldn't that block the GPS waves?

We had a thread like this before and I stated that I could easily rob a bank, having worked for one before. I even posted very detailed instructions on how I would do it....then I thought better of it and deleted the post. :)

Just know that I could do it and get away with it if I really wanted to.

The key to getting away with a heist is keeping your mouth shut. Something in the rage of 90% of bank robbers that are caught are turned in by someone they know.

I would rob an armored car, ala Heat. All I need is woot to have a good deal on an EMP gun. :)
