Disclaimer: this is a hypotehtical trade proposal. if you don't like seeing these types of things, don't read on. I think the team as is, with Yao and T-Mac and some effective role player changes in the future, could be championship caliber. It's just as likely to be 1st or 2nd round fodder repeatedly, though. Out of curiousity, who would do this: Houston trades: PG Reece Gaines PG Charlie Ward C Yao Ming PF Juwan Howard Houston receives: SG Jason Richardson SF Eduardo Najera PG Speedy Claxton PF Troy Murphy 2005 Unprotected first round draft pick 2006 Top X protected first round draft pick. Who would do this? Anybody? Not saying I would necessarily, but it would be interesting. Sura, Richardson, McGrady, Murphy, [blank] with a bench of Claxton, Wesley, Mutombo, Taylor, Najera. You'd finally be athletic and could run-n-gun. Likely wouldn't be as successful as Phoenix or Seattle given that the team lacks size and pure shooting, but athleticism would be at an all time high. Theoretically, you then have good picks to either trade for some size (Murphy does pull down over 10 boards a game) at the center or try your hand again at the draft. Why would G.S. do it?? Don't know, but it seems like they are salivating over Yao. Plus, I'd imagine they'd still suck. AGAIN, this isn't a jumping overboard type post. I am just curious.
I'm not really a fan of Jason Richardson. I wouldn't consider this trade unless I was confident we could land a franchise player with one of the picks.
So, we replace one set of guys that haven't had winning seasons with a few other guys who have less potential than some of ours (Yao) who also have not been part of a winning tradition. We are building around a couple of guys around 25 years old, both of whom have nearly unlimited potential. We have the base for a great team and now we need to fill in appropriate role players. Any trade proposal involving Yao or TMac better bring a Duncan, a KG, a Kobe, or a Shaq.
I just dont see how you get those players for him, though. The only one that would ever be possible is KG, because as good as he is, the Wolves can't seem to get it done with him, but even then, skill alone it isn't a fair trade for Minnesota and Yao seriously doesn't have the same kind of marketing draw there that would attract them. Yao isn't in those players caliber today. The argument becomes one of do you ever think he'll get there. I think he'll continue to be really good, but never that good. Never MVP caliber.
Warriors will do it without blink of an eye. I don't mind it too since I would be able to actually watch Yao play Warriors will sell out most of their home games. But come on, Les is not that stupid.
I disagree. Yao has a tremendous skillset, an incredible size advantage, and is very intelligent. He did not have the luxury of even a year or two in a US college and as such, will develop a little more like a high school jumper than someone more seasoned. Yao's two biggest liabilities now are a lack of experience, which he improves every game, and a set of teammates that is not familiar enough with each other to get the ball to the right people where they want it. Yao may not be able to entice SA to trade Duncan, nor LA to trade Kobe. However, the potential that Yao has far outweighs anything that we could get in trade for him. He may not develop into a Dream-like superstar, but who has the kind of potential to develop into that kind of player that we could get with Yao as trade bait? Keep in mind that the salary is a HUGE issue right now since we could only trade Yao for someone making 3 million or so.
A big NO from me. But, it seems that I am of the minority here, I am one that thinks trading Yao at all would be a big mistake. And, no, I am not a YOF!
Why are people considering about trading Yao?? A year ago... the thought of trading him would've been
Some of the few trades I would agree to involving Yao... Yao + our filler (ie. Mo Taylor) for: 1) KG 2) a package of Indy stars including J. O'neal 3) Nowitzki + Josh Howard 4) possible a package including Kirilenko Richardson and Murphy are not going to cut it!
Realistically, in a single player for single player swap (ignoring salary), what do you think the the best offer for Yao would be? I have been wondering this recently. Not that I think he should be traded, just in trying to place him. It, of course, would be with the understanding of different teams having different needs. So, for example, Miami would not trade Wade for him.
JayZ750, I'd have to pass on your trade proposal, just because I don't feel we're getting enough for Yao in return. The #1 picks are nice, but they are an unknown variable. However, with NY slumping & playing under .500 ball, & you add in the fact that Yao would be a huge draw, would they be interested in this trade? Houston sends Yao/Taylor/Howard/Sura/Ward to NY. NY sends Marbury/K.Thomas/Mohammed/Moochie to Houston. NY gets the biggest box office draw they've had in many years in Yao. Even though they give up 3 starters, they still have T. Thomas/Crawford/Sweetney/Houston/Howard/Sura to surround Yao. Would the excitement, increased revenue, & dumping of Moochie be enough to convince them that this is the right deal? Houston dumps 3 bad contracts, takes back 1 bad contract, gets a solid replacement center, a very good PF, & what I believe is the premier PG in the game today. Our new lineup would look like this: C: Mohammed/Mutombo PF: KT/Spoon/Padgett SF: T-Mac/Bowen SG: Barry/Wesley PG: Marbury/Barrett/Moochie Still a little thin on depth, but much more balanced. What do you think?
noperz. wouldn't do it. seems as if you're going for a "last year memphis type of team" or something. we'd have no center (unless other trades were involved). troy murphy against other pfs? you have eduardo as a sf? it's like you designed this trade to beat phoenix and not the rest of the league.
