OK, let's say you have this guy...We'll call him "J-Train". Let's say that J-Train recently got married to a girl that listened to country music, and her favorite group of all time was the Dixie Chicks. Now, J-Train never really listened to county that much before getting married, so he never really understood why his new wife liked the Dixie Chicks. Of course, being the loving wife she is, she controls the home stereo and the truck stereo the majority of the time, and she plays the Dixie Chicks a lot. J-Train soon finds out after listening to the Dixie Chicks a lot that they have some pretty good songs. He especially likes the song "Long Time Gone" off their new album that is being released later this month. Now, my question is: Would J-Train be considered gay if he thought that the Dixie Chicks were kind of cool? If he rolls up to a basketball court with the Dixie Chicks playing, should he switch it to the R&B station so he doesn't look like a dork? Thanks for your input...
J-Train shouldn't care what other people think of his preferences. J-Train should feel comfortable in his man-hood (especially since he's married and probably not married) and listen to whatever music floats his boat. And if some people have a problem with J-Train's choice of music, he should first school them on the basketball court...then go home and get the nasty on with his wife to some nice Dixie Chicks in the background...
J-Train would not be considered gay if he SECRETLY listened to the Dixie Chicks. It is considered hetero-sexual male etiquete to pretend to hate all things even remotely woman sounding so long as the never spoken code of don't ask, don't tell regarding music is strictly adhered to. Playing the Dixie Chicks loudly only upsets the already delicate mirage of complete manliness we all must follow 23 hours a day. The remaining hour may be spent alone locked in a closet listening to a walkman and enjoying all the Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks or Debbie Gibson you can.
well, tell J-Train that I have a friend, let's call him erapg... he had the exact same predicament as you, except rather than a wife, it was a long-time girlfriend and instead of the Dixie Chicks, it was Shania Twain... the rest of the story is precise... well, erapg would, in fact, change the music away from Twain songs (off a CD he shamefully borrowed from his gf) whenever he approached his friends or came to a red light... basically, erapg lived in shame for his newfound love of shania twain songs and never told anybody (except his sister who laughed mercifully at first, but soon began liking the music as well!)... therefore the morale of this story is that if erapg didn't have such low self esteem back than, he would have happily listened to his shania twain music w/o caring what anyone else thinks... but he didn't.
Not that there's anything wrong with that... Dude...if he's doing it for a chick (namely his wife) it's hetero-sanctioned! He just happened to get into it because his wife is..he probably associates the music with her...it's all good. Tell J-Train to chill...he's cool like Fonzie!
Hmm, well the Dixie Chicks are my favorite country group and Shania is second and i'm not gay so i suppose that would not make you gay. i mean, Shania has the seventh biggest album ever and the Chicks have a 10x and 8x album so some guys must be buying the stuff. people (i.e. my friends) have been known to laugh at f4p because he likes the dixie chicks but in general he doesn't care. however, f4p is not so comfortable that he would be blasting a dixie chicks cd at a basketball court. and yes, Long Time Gone is an awesome song and i'm definitely getting the cd (though i may have to buy some sort of heavy metal cd along with it lest the clerk think any less of me as a man).
J-Train is a big dork. If it wasn't bad enough that he listened to and enjoyed the Dixie Chicks, he also is conceding the home and car stereo to his wife and allowing her to subvert his musical tastes. It is one thing to be emasculated by one's wife and quite another to proudly broadcast said emasculation through the windows of one's car. I am heartened, at least, by the fact that he recognizes the transgression and still feel some shame as a result. He should take action now before his pride is utterly forgotten.
Well a friend of mine named Wink2Cat6 used to only listen to country music and really enjoyed it. He liked Reba (the old stuff), Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Mindy McCready, Mary Chapin Carpenter and numerous other female acts. He now listens to all types of music including country and he doesn't care who knows. I think you should follow his example...
I know this one guy -- lets call him "JuanV".... No that's too obvious.... Let's say "JValdez" -- d'oh!
Dude, the Dixie Chicks are the bomb. Call me whatever the hell you want , the music is great, and that's all that matters. If you enjoy it, listen to it. Hell, I'm sure that your wife....errrrrrrr....."his" wife has grown to like some of the stuff that he listens to as well.
I know this guy Yekoms who was flipping through the dials one day and came across a pop country station that he really liked.
