Yao is all the Rockets have right now. He is playing at an all time high. Over the course of the year he has not been the best player but since coming back from IR who has been better?

Is Yao a legitimate MVP contender if the Rockets make the play offs?

Is there a player in the league that is more important to their team than Yao is right now?

Right now, maybe no player more important to his team than Yao. But no way Yao can get the MVP consideration. It's Nash's to lose. :(

He might get some votes, but given the fact that he just didn't have enough (injury or no) to pull it out early in the season when he really had a chance to shine, I don't think he'll be given any kind of serious consideration.

Just as good a question: Will Yao make First Team All-NBA?

Nash didn't score 81 points. If the Lakers make the playoffs, you better believe Kobe is going to win MVP.

I hate Kobe but it would be hard to argue that any one player is more important to their team than him.

Yao will never win MVP award!

You are kidding me. How can an unathletic and uncoordinated stick who got dunked on and scored on by everyone be the league MVP???

Sorry, I don't watch the Rockets games. I watch the ESPN Sportscenter only.

    And yes, I am ignorant.

Do they define MVP as being most valuable to your team? Or is it MVP in the league itself?

If it's the latter, Yao isn't a contender this year.
If it's the former, Yao will have a shot at it, provided he leads his team to the playoffs.

I don't think he deserves MVP for playing half the games this season.

Elton Brand has been incredible for the Clippers!

To be a MVP candidate, one must first be a winner.

The guy helped his team to win 15 out of the last 21 after he returned from injury and is healthy again. S do you think he's a winner or a loser?

If Yao can lead us to the playoffs surrounded by this bunch, they might as well induct him into the Hall of Fame already.
