IMHO, and this is all anyone can do....no way.

JVG would not play a rookie PG...he wouldn't trust him.

Cassell was more of a freelance scoring PG, so no way in hell would JVG have played him on a veteran team like that.

He'd play, but probably not as many minutes. I think Kenny Smith would have played closer to 35 mpg. JVG might have favored Scott Brooks over Sam Cassell initially -- because of the "trust" factor.

The answer is easily no and then you'll have everyone here calling cassell and bum and that he can't play and that you should listen to jvg.

Sam Cassell, rookie year, coached by Rudy: 17 minutes per game

Luther Head, rookie year, coached by JVG: 29 minutes per game

    Facts suck.

I voted no - but Luther Head could be an example to the contrary. Sam got 17 mpg his rookie year - Luther got 29 mpg in his. V-Span's gotten 8 mpg. It may be fair to say that Sam would've gotten a chance at some burn.

Why's he still getting the same minutes this year, then?

who was available to play the 2?He played luther because he had to.I don't know if anyone remembers but the 05-06 roster resembled an NBDL roster, with all the injuries and all.

"JVG would not play a rookie PG"

Rookie PG played 29 minutes a game under JVG.

This really isn't that complicated. Of course he wouldn't have played as much if other, better players were healthy - that's just common sense, and entirely different from not playing someone at all.

Head averaged more than 20 minutes per game in each individual month of the season. That means he played 20+ minutes even with Rafer Alston and Wesley both healthy. Nice try, though.

    Major,
do you factor in that Tmac was hurt alot, giving Luther more PT out of necessity?

Are you even serious? Is luther a rookie this year? The point is head got the chance last year cause everyone got injured and proved he could play, so he gets minutes this year. If not for the injuries last year, luther would have been parked on the bench for most of the season.

Why's Luther still getting 28 mpg, on a far deeper and healthier team if he was only played out of necessity last year? Why'd we waive Derek Anderson if things were so desperate?

Sam would have played. He's the type of hard nosed competitor JVG loves. He is not trying to sabotage our team

I think the only thing Major factors in is stating facts without any context to them.

I think the bigger question is if Kenny would have played, or played much. Of the three, I suspect Scottie would have evoked the greatest trust. In any regard, Sammy might have played - his game was mature for a rookie, he was not a young 19 year old, he played lots for a respected program etc.

If this is JVG bash, what's the 'point'?
