Having only seen an Oscar Re-cap, the Melissa Etheridge tribute to
An Inconvenient Truth with the backdrop of rails and public transportation
    was just laughable.

Its ironic that those who probably fly chartered jets and travel around the world and use up more oil and produce more C02 in a year than I do in a lifetime have the audacity to tell us to conserve.

I'd like to see Gore's and that crowd's energy usage versus that of the average person in the world and then blame them for global warming.

Well, I don't know about others, but we should certainly condemn Gore for his use of chartered jets...

Gore's a b*stard. Just look at how fat he is... and couldn't he put on clothes more befitting his station? You know, like W and his nice jacket with the Presidential Seal embroidry...

    Check out John Edwards' vision:
    http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070218/26edwards.b.htm

"On energy. It is time to ask Americans to sacrifice, to be willing to conserve, buy more fuel-efficient vehicles. I think we need a cap on carbon dioxide emissions."

How much gas/oil does it to take to heat up his 100 acre, multi-million dollar mansion?

I don't really care for him one way or another. I just laugh when a guy with multiple homes around the US that travels in chartered planes tells me I need to reduce my energy use.

That and Melissa Etheridge?? I'm sure a world or country tour she uses more carbon than most of us do in a lifetime.

Its funny how I state something that is deathly obvious and all I get is a bunch of put downs and insults from people on this board that have NOTHING at all to do with the topic.

Actually, F.D. I think you missed Gore's entire message about conservation, which is that we can do it without significant alterations to our present lifestyle. He is not asking us to completely stp using oil period or live in a cardboard box.

People bash it because its absurd logic. So using your logic, the claim that members of congress are hypocritical because they or their children aren't serving in Iraq becomes legitimate. Or the claim that those who fight for animal welfare must be vegan. etc.. etc..

Your point is absolutely correct but I'm not sure why it matters? Is this a reason not to enact legislation to combat climate change and curb greenhouse gases? Other than pointing out a fairly obvious fact about celebrities, what's the point?

I don't think he has a 100 acre mansion. That means his house would have a footprint equivalent to about 100 football fields (with endzones)... or about a 1,800,000+ square foot house on the ground floor. The Biltmore, considered to be the country's largest house, has 175,000 square feet and a footprint of a mere 4 acres. The Pentagon sits on 29 acres and could hold 5 US Capitol buildings. Edwards may have a mansion sited on 100 acres, but that is something entirely different.

And he did build the house with enviro friendly stuff and the house is Energy Star compliant. The house itself is 10,400 square feet with the barn/rec center being 15,600 square feet.

I think you know I meant his mansion is sitting on 100 acres. And please save the energy star bs, he wants the average Americans to sacrifice, yet he is living in a 15000 square feet house? If he cuts down his house size to half, he would be saving more energy than any of us could ever have. Please explain to me how that's not hypocrisy.

I appreciate the reasonable dialogue. The question is with pictures of public transportation and rail's etc, that is telling me I should give up my car and use this type of transportation. That is a significant alteration to my lifestyle. I, unlike Gore, only have one home and not three to accomodate my lifestyle.

Do you think Melissa Etheridge would cancel a tour to not make more money to help the environment? I seriously doubt it. She had 40 tour stops last year alone.

I'm not using the logic that he or she must live a zero carbon lifestyle to deliver his message, but using Chartered jets instead of regular jets, maintaining three houses instead of one and other very strikingly obvious blatant uses of excess energy and resources would be a more compelling argument.

And by the way, i'm also for having mandatory one to two year military service for all citizens of the US like Israel requires. I believe it will help those in business and government to understand the implications of their actions.

it's not about what he can do it's what you can do.

have you taken the time out to travel to produce analysis backed by facts to start dialogue about the environment? or can all you do is gripe?

we're not talking about asking people who live below the impoverished line to give up their salaries and help save the whales. we all do what we can.

of all people, you shouldn't complain about 'sacrifices'. i mean, writing to congressmen to affect high-waste industries, driving more efficient vehicles.. that sure is a LOT of work.

until you can get global awareness on an issue... i think it's a weak argument.
