I guess this is old news but I had never heard of it until today. And I couldn't find any threads on it at all.
Apparently they're looking to revamp Hwy 290 starting in 2011 and it will start at 610 and go all the way to 2920. Phase I will be to just 34th street and won't be done until 2014. It's long overdue and looks like it'll be years out before we'll see it done.

It's about 15 years too late...

Should have been done in the late 90s.

Our tax bill could jump 30 percent. Atleast we have a cool football stadium..

If you want to read about freeways, buildings, construction, etc. or any other stuff like this, check out the Houston Architecture Forum.

sometimes, when I goog up stats about population breakdowns, I get links to city-data.

I am a member of HAIF, though I have not posted in 500 years. Some of those people are annoying. Who else posts over there.

I don't really post over there. I don't find them too annoying. Mostly extremely knowledgeable. However, they are very inner loop centric and kinda snobby at anything suburbia.

That's true of a lot of those type forums. The DFW Urban Forums are the exact same way, but they're great ways to get good knowledge about the ongoing construction in and history of cities if you can weed through the snobbery.

Instead they could just line the existing roads with gasoline and burn that entire stretch.

Crap. Even more reason to hurry and graduate. I do Not want to have to deal with the traffic going to and from school.

Maybe if they build the Hempstead Tollway first then some of that traffic will flow over to there.

Yeah, why didn't they do this before we moved to the area by 290? :( I travel inbounds frequently on the weekends. Oh well, there's other ways to get to downtown area!

Not really until you get to the Beltway. Good thing I don't work in that direction.

We live inside of Beltway 8 so it might be a good thing. From my experience, 290 all way to/from 610 always is jam packed during rush hour and with construction, it's gonna be a nightmare for people who work inbound. I'm wondering if they're going to have a plan to alleviate the traffic.

This should have been done a long time ago. They knew they were going to build houses past 1960, yet it took forever to get the ball rolling for the Northwest Freeway.

This is gonna be a b**** in the ass to deal with.
