Let's see if we can help each other get ready for the worst, if anything. Let's keep this friendly and without arguments. FULL TANK OF GAS 3 changes of clothes WATER - 3 days worth NON-PERISHABLE food - vienna sausages, crackers, corn, green beans, canned stuff, etc. CAN OPENER - the multi-opener kind, that also opens corks and soda bottles, etc. BATTERY RADIO CANDLES DRY MATCHES FLASH LIGHT and an extra set of batteries MASKING TAPE FIRST AID KIT with alcohol prep pads, adhesive bandages, aspirin, etc. what else am I missing? We are a family of 4, which includes Mrs. SwoLy (pebbles), my 7 and 10-year-old daughters. We also have 2 cats, one Chia Garfield pet. Hey, let's keep our sanity. PET FOOD. Add what you think I missed or you think is necessary. Ladies, don't forget your 'female' needs.
If you have any ice chests, fill them with as much ice as you can. If you have family that has medication that needs refrigeration this can go from really nice to life saving. Lots and lots of ice!
Im in the process of freezing 5 1 gallon jugs of water. going to use those to keep perishibles in a large cooler I have.
Sweet stuff, codell, thanks. LOL, SuperMac. Mrs. SwoLy is on the other PC (i'm on the laptop) searching for Emergency Preparedness stuff. She found this very good article : http://www.fcs.uga.edu/pubs/current/FDNS-E-34-2.html
Yep great idea. Or you can fill some gallon sizede ziplocs with ice from your ice trays. i do both. The local government here in Beaumont is suggesting making sure you have supplies for at least 5 days just to be on the safe side.
I haven't been watching the news too too much lately Is this looking REAL or another Scare? Sorry If i sound cynical but after the debacle that was RITA I've gotten very Skeptical Rocket River
They can never tell you for sure, RR. But if you live in Houston there is a very very real chance you will be experiencing hurricane force winds this weekend.
Skeptics go on to the other thread to battle it out with Jeff and the other forecaster dudes... I mean, I understand. This thread is for items we might need in case Hurricane Ike, though.
if it makes you feel any better, I'm not that worried about it, but I don't see how it would hurt to prepare for the worst.
