By the time you wake up and read this, Ike is going to be a monster storm. This ain't gustav, it's going to hit Texas much worse.

For those of you in the area - watch this one carefully - it has real potential to be a catasthropic storm. very large cat 4 or 5 storm. take care...

Ike isn't a rough storm! It's nothing like living in a box for 5 years. The only difference between a hurricane and a hockey mom is lipstick!

    Oh, and wrong forum :p

Since this thread is in here anyway...

I know we all go round and round in the D&D, but I hope all of you get through Ike without any problems this weekend. Best of luck and stay safe.

Hurricane Ike has the same name as a famous woman abuser.

    Palin is a woman.

    Coincidence?

For shame, National Hurricane Center, for shame...

FEMA's staging a lot of their contractors and temporary workers in Austin. Sounds like they are better prepared to manage response and logistics since Katrina.

A lot of fire folks have been asked about availability for Ike duty... we're expecting a call from FEMA for a bunch of crews with chainsaws to deal with downed trees. If it's more serious, they could request other services from radios to helicopters to Incident Management Teams.

From here, it looks like the national/Federal level coordination is much better.

We should use this D&D thread more to observe human nature under stress

I've already driven over a curb to get to a feeder road. Order is breaking down.

    Word.

I hope that all of my friends and rivals (they are sometimes the same people) get through Ike unscathed.

The current plan is to get Refgal and her son (and 2 dogs and 3 cats) in the morning in League City and head for the middle of Houston.

Fortunately, the storm seem to have not strengthened to this point and may come in East of Galveston.

With any luck, we may be spared the worst.

rimrocker...thank you for all of the help you stand ready to provide. You are a good man.
