After Sunday's game, Pence is now 6 plate appearances away from qualifying for the batting race. He would currently rank 3rd. Assuming he plays every game and gets a minimum of 4 plate appearances per game, he'll make it over the weekend. Incidentally, Loretta is 10 plate appearances short of qualifying. He would rank 8th in batting average and 7th in OBP.
Thanks bobrek, I have been watching this myself. After Biggio getting to 3000, this will the next thing that will be well worth keeping up with.
If Hunter were playing for the Skanks , he would be the next Mickey Mantle . The kid is gonna be a superstar .
To be playing like a damn superstar his 1st year....UNBELIEVABLE! Who freaking does that? You almost forget he is a rookie! I can't imagine the limit!...........
The cool thing about Hunter is, every time I think he is going to fall into a rookie slump, he busts out with a 3 or 4 hit game. Like clockwork. He seems to be quite steady. He's the first hitter on the Astros since Lance Berkman first came up that caused me to stop whatever I was doing and watch his ABs when I had the game on.
Albert Freaking Pujols. I was so greeeeen with envy when that guy came out of nowhere and started outdoing Gehrig and Williams for the damn Cardinals. I wanted to see something that special for the Astros. Hey Hunter: stay healthy, keep getting better, work on that sorry-assed arm, and work your plate discipline.
Pujols still doesn't get enough credit for what he's doing (despite the MVPs, all-star games, etc.). If he was in NY, he'd be the Michael Jordan of baseball.. hell, he may be even BIGGER than Michael Jordan (in terms of impact on the game in his first 5 years).
He's amazing. Amazing in an all-time kinda way. Thank God he's not playing for the *(@&#$& Braves or the (*#@$&@# Mets.
Yeah but now he plays for the Cardinals of which we have to play against 15 times a year... Ugh and since he won a ring, he has no reason to leave...
Albert Pujols, Ichiro, Fred Lynn, Mark Fydrich, Hideo Nomo, Mark Mcgwire all dominated in their rookie years.
Pitching, no hitting Hitting, no pitching not a formula for success. If the Astros can get some pitching now, wow, the hitting is coming. Pense is amazing. Lee is no slouch, and Berman is coming around. Lamb and Loretta aren't bad either.
