I need to teach my trombone player some of these hot moves. Click on the image on the right. You need a Quicktime player with sound. Too bad he cacks the last note.
OMFG this guy came to my school a few months ago with James McBride's (the author of The Color of Water) band. It was a tour that goes around to promote reading (ironically sponsored by Comcast). Yeah, this guy was pretty ****ing crazy. That was nothing compared to what he did live. His trombone playing was much more present (and quite good), but the students had a very similar reaction to the audience in the clip. I didn't find it to be THAT big of a deal, but 90% of the student body was out of their seats. This guy ended up running up and down the aisles and jumped up and split 3 or 4 times. It was nuts. It was quite impressive and I went to him after the show to talk to him for a bit; he was sweating profusely. Oh, and he was a definite wigger. He also grew up right by the Apollo if I recall what he said correctly. Here's a pic of the performance just to prove I'm no bull****ter: (he's directly left of the microphone)
Well . . . I just got 8 new CD's today. One of thim is Art Blakey and the Jazz Messenger: Indestructible and Curtis Fuller is on that. I got 4 other Jazz Messenger CD's too but those are quintets, no Fuller. It's a shame he didn't record under his own name very much. I prefer him to JJ. Did this satisfy you any Manny?
Yes, yes it did! Look for "Blues-Ette" (used) - that is generally regarded as the best Fuller CD (it is on the Savoy label).
OMG Whitey has some moves!!! Did I really see the Harlem shake in there? Holy cow what was insane - awesome, but insane.
