[Humiliation] Anthem singer forgets words and then takes a tumble

I don't think even Mo Cheeks could have helped this poor girl ....

    A perilous fight

Singing U.S. anthem proves tricky for one Canadian

NEW YORK (AP) -- By the dawn's early light, Caroline Marcil finally finished on national TV what she started at a hockey game -- a flawless rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner.

The Montreal singer was to perform the national anthems of two countries before the United States' 5-4 exhibition victory over Canada on Friday in Quebec City.

Despite two tries, she forgot the words to the U.S. anthem and then left to get the lyrics. When she returned to the rink, she slipped on the carpet covering the ice and plopped on her back before a Quebec Coliseum crowd of 7,166.

After lying motionless for a few seconds, the 24-year-old Canadian left on her own and the game began without either anthem sung.

Marcil regrouped over the weekend, when she was invited to appear on ABC's Good Morning America, where she sang the entire U.S. anthem without a hitch. Marcil said the pressure before the game got to her.

"It was a lot of things together, the emotion, the stress," she said, adding that the crowd's booing made things worse.

"That made me completely blank," she said.

On Monday, she was on the ABC show again, and explained why she needed to return to the ice.

"I wanted to do it," she said in accented English. "And to show I was able to do it. I go get my words and -- I'm going to do this song. I have to."

Well, at least she had some cushion for her fall.

    Ok, a lot of cushion.

I saw this on ESPn over the weekend. The singing was really bad. When she came back out she did step down on teh carpet and it went flying about 10 feet across the ice. In her defense (about the carpet not the singing) the square they put down was about 1'x1', and it looked like it was curled on the ends. At our arena when someone sings or comes on the ice they at least put out about a 5'x5' square.

That's pretty humiliating. Almost as humiliating as putting 'works' instead of 'words' in the thread title. :D

She looks like the unpopular girl on 90210 - the smart one who looked 10 years older than the others.

That's because she basically was ... I think she was in her late 20's while she was on that show.

She was Andrea Zuckerman on the show - real name is Andrea Carteris.

Not that I watched it or anything... I had to look that up... *ahem*

The first thing I said when I saw this girl's pic was that she kind of looked like Mary Lou Retton.

She's probably not that big... it looks like an unfortunate camera angle.

On the other hand, that's what she gets for wearing those shoes. I don't care how popular they are. How can you even walk in those things? And then you're busy concentrating on that and forget your lyrics. :)
