If you ever have a choice in the matter, do everything you can to avoid Humana insurance. They have denied the physical therapy my doctors tell me I need, they have denied the walking boot my doctors tell me I need and they deny half my prescriptions, making me fight for them while I am laid up in bed. **** Humana.
Hey Batman, My insurance sucks too. they keep screwing up the bill process, still working on resolving crap they had to pay last year.
Good grief! As if getting hit by a taxi while overseas, being denied care there, and being shipped back here whilst still injured wasn't ordeal enough for you, your insurance company wants to rub salt in your wounds by doing this? That's f'ing absurd.
Email me through the board Batman, maybe I can help you. I am very familiar with the medical appeals process. Make sure you keep all your documenation...
You know people do not treat their dogs this bad. Political stuff ... Spoiler Wait until the Public Option slaps Humana up side the head. They will get theirs.
You might already knows this ... Whenever you talk to your insurance company, you need to write down who you talked to as well as what they told you. The who is surprisingly important. I called my insurance company, asked if something was covered and got an in-network doctor recommendation. I submit the expense to my insurance company and was denied. I called back the 1-800 number and they needed to know who I talked to or they would not even give me the time of day. FTW.
Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm not trying to fix this now; I'm too pissed off. Just venting. Have to leave now for a painful round of physical therapy (which my insurance will stop paying for right around the time that I'm allowed to put pressure on the foot, leaving me to pay out of pocket if I want to learn how to walk again). Will check out the good advice when I've calmed down. It might be a while.
I tried to get physical therapy instead of surgery on my shoulder and was denied. They would have paid for the surgery though. I denied that and joined a gym. If anyone knows any good physical therapy exercises for a shoulder feel free to share.
We had Humana a long time ago, but have had Blue Cross/Blue Shield the last 10+ years. There's no comparison. I'm not surprised that you're having trouble, Batman. Keep working the system, such as it is (Humana SUCKS!), and you should be able to straighten it out. Maybe. Guess I don't sound very upbeat. I had a hell of a time with them. Maybe you should have stayed in Amsterdam!
If this is a "b**** about insurance" thread, I've got some to share. In the span of 20 months, the cost of a c-section delivery at the exact same hospital, with the exact same insurance and the exact same doctors increased almost 50%. This is not a joke. Additionally, OBGYN's generally want their "estimated" cost up front, which of course includes the deductible. As any dolt can tell you, you will chew through that deductible rather quicky in the last month of the pregnancy - but the OBGYN will not submit the claim until after delivery.... which means you get to pay the deductible twice and then call and badger them into sending you the refund in a timely fashion. Let's keep going - random doctor's will (for some inexplicable reason) divide their bills into two or three payments. Which means you have to sort through their cryptic accounting sheets, compare to the EOBs from the claims, and spend hours on the phone figuring out if the charge is legitimate. My personal favorite is that, should your wife have an emergency c-section, the doctor can sometimes require an assistant surgeon. No big deal, except that due to contractual stipulations with the hospital, this assistant may not be "in your network". Thanks to this you'll have to spend a lot of hours on the phone sorting out why that's absolutely not your fault, and maybe even file a formal complaint. Eventually the jerkwad accountants who run both the insurance douchetastic firm and the actual surgeon slug it out, but run everything through you thanks to some weird legal requirement. Did I mention I hate insurance?
Batman, that is soooo frustrating. I know you know exactly, because you're facing it as we read this. My mom had issues with insurance back in the day over an illness. I cannot stand major medical companies sometimes. When doctors diagnose, they are supposed to pay. This kind of thing is why I used my TDI license to become an agent for Aflac. While major medical plays their games, we (Aflac) keep right on paying. It does not retroactively cover accidents such as Batman's, but it would cover anything in the future, for him or anyone else... for less than an hour's wage per week! Aflac is supplemental health insurance that pays YOU cash directly, while the Major Med companies haggle with docs, hospitals and rx bills, Aflac keeps your lights on, gas tank full, and stomach from grumbling. You use the cash as you see fit, and the benefits are non-taxable income. Y'all can reach me through the bbs email... I can put you "under our wing." Get better, Batman, and hopefully your insurance will fall in line and work for you as it's supposed to.
I think UHC and BlueCross are the better unsurance companies around here. UHC covered my ACL and MCL surgery, and all I paid for out of pocket was $100, and covered PT too. My fiance has BlueCross and she's been happy with them for some time now. I've heard pretty bad horror stories from friends about Humana. Sorry about your misfortune, and hope you get the help you need.
UHC. Although, to be fair, they were as helpful as they could be. It's the whole system that's just plain bonkers.
rhadamanthus and IROC it - very helpful information! (Especially for people like me who have UHC and may or may not include birthing children in their 5 year plan. )
We have United as well. I think they are one of the better ones. No issues, ever, including an ambulance and ER visit a couple years ago.
