http://www.cnn.com/2002/HEALTH/01/31/cloned.kidney.ap/index.html So what do you guys think about this? Personally, I think that there are lots of people out there who need kidney transpants. And not enough donors. I want this technology to be used, so that if a loved one of mine (or hell, anyone) needs a kidney, they can have one. It's that simple for me. And I'd extend it to hearts, livers, lungs, etc. Note that this doesn't mean cloning people to harvest organs. That's a doomsday image. We're talking about individual cloning of organs, here. It's a very simple issue for me. But perhaps not for everyone? EDIT: I'm a frickin' moron. It was a *cow* kidney. I'd assume the tech would work for humans, though .
What about extending it to brains though? That's where it gets a little tricky (although thats years and years away)? I think it'd be cool to clone a human brain and implant it in a cow or something. Would that work? Anyway, I agree with you. The sooner they can clone they human liver, the sooner I can start drinking non-stop all day long
I support stem cell research- which none is funded by the government-all private. It could help my uncle who is diabetic. They could someday give him a new pancreas or on a smaller scale - the "Islets of Langherhans" controlling insulin. This would help many people. Even if not for my family - for children with Juvenile Type 1 diabetes. They suffer the most with kidney and vision failure. I wish the politicians would not make this such an issue.
For those of you who are knowledgeable about science, why is it harder to clone human organs vs animal organs? Irealize we are more complex. I would love it. I can drink and smoke all I want and have a liver, kidneys, and lungs waiting for me.
