I told yall this was a dirty hit. Cost him 35,000$ Sure did kill what was left of the Bears offense... http://msn.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs01/news/2002/0123/1316118.html "illegally blocking"
I agree it was a dirty play. But, Miller never would have gotten hurt if he didn't throw an idiotic pass when his team was right in the game. Plus, there isn't much difference between Miller and Mathews--as I feared the Iggles and Bears were too evenly matched except at the QB position. The Bears need a QB, Trent "I may suck but I won't screw up" Dilfer would at least be an improvement. You trade for Drew Bledsoe and get Robinson healthy, and you can pencil the Bears in the NFC championship game next year.
You are cool! I would love to get a big name QB. Bledsoe would be nice or Dilfer. I would actually prefer Dilfer. And even if they don't get another QB, Miller was very promising when he had a deep threat (#88 - Robinson) and a go to guy (Engram). Booker emerged as his go to guy and with Robinson back look for Terrell to have a break out year too. Offense can only get better and the D is young and signed long term. Chicago Bears 2002 NFC North Champs!
Yeah, I bet that Jim Miller would've turned the Bears into a 35 point scoring machine (what they needed to win) against one of the league's best defenses.
I'm quite sure of it. And his departure meant the Eagles could concentrate on A-Train, instead of having to keep an eye down field. *
Yeah we all know about the vaunted Bears aerial assault... The Bears offense has been crap all year, it plays right into the Eagles hands because it's just little dink and dump passes...
You mean the one that produced all-nfl wide-out Marcus Robinson? The one that didn't miss a beat when he went down and instead produced record setting Marty Booker? The fact is---the dink and dum passes are the hall-mark of the Shane Matthews offense. When Miller is in, the field gets stretched because he's throwing down field to robinson, booker, white and David Terrell. Don't watch much football, do you cat?
That's what the talk of the Bears has been their whole season guys, that high-powered, run and gun offense...YEAH RIGHT!!! Get over it, the Bears lost there is no asterik by the win. The better team won, the starting QB just happened to get hurt. I guess that means there is an asterik by the Rockets two championships because Jordan was playing baseball? I guess there should be an asterik by the 15 losses in a row by the Rockets since Francis was hurt I guess there should be one by the Buffalo win over L.A. in 1990 cause Bo Jackson was hurt ...I could go on and on. Just because a star or starter is missing doesn't mean a win is tainted!
Cat? Okay... Yes I do watch plenty of football, that's why I predicted the Eagles would win and also provided plenty of facts and reasons for why they would beat the Bears. Lets have a game by game look from December on for the almighty Jim Miller... 12/2 vs Detroit - 124 yards passing 12/9 vs Green Bay - 139 yards passing 12/16 vs Tampa Bay - 190 yards passing 12/23 vs Washington - 98 yards passing 12/30 vs Detroit - 252 yards passing 1/6 vs Jacksonville - 159 yards passing Okay, out of those games, only one time did Jim Miller have a good game passing, and that was against the pathetic Detroit Lions. How exactly does one complete downfield passes when he doesn't even break 200 yards passing most of the time? And we all know the Bears would have plenty of time to complete these downfield passes against a blitz oriented defense like the Eagles...
So if Troy Vincent sits out this game Sunday, he is considered one of the leaders of the Philadelphia defense, and the Eagles lose I would be correct in saying the reason the Eagles lost was because Vincent was out of the game???
Wink, don't worry, after next sunday the Iggles are going to wish they lost by a respectable margin in Soldier field.
Just so everyone knows, the fine is being challenged, and Hugh Douglas has a very good case considering no penalty was called on the field even though the ref was looking right at it. What is even more disturbing is the fact that there is no way this particular play would be in question at all if Miller wasnt injured. Also, while we're talking about astericks, in my opinion every Chicago Bulls champion season (heck every basketball champions in a while) should be discounted and have an asterik next to it due to the fact that they came after the Celtics won their 8 straight decades earlier. I mean if every player on that team hadnt gotten really old and unathletic, they'd still probably be winning
Ridiculous. If the pansy QB's don't want to get pancaked, then don't throw an INTERCEPTION! So Douglas is essentially getting fined because Miller can't pass worth a crap. This is why the NFL blows. First they fine guys for having too much eye blackener (John Randle), then they fine guys for socks that are too high, and now they are fining Douglas for doing what every defensive player is taught to do. The No Fun League sucks, and I hope someone flushes this turd of a league down the toilet.
I agree with you kidrock8, the NFL does fine for some awfully stupid things, eye blackener, high socks, multiple player celebrations, etc. The same could probably be said about the NBA though, they fine if you wear your shorts too low, wear shoes with lights inside them, or if you waive your finger.
I remember seeing a defense player get a penalty called on him for "personal foul, #xx throwed the quarterback into the turf" while making a quarterback sack. That honestly was the referee's explanation. I always thought in football that was called a "tackle". I did think what Douglass did was excessive and not involved with the play (a cheap shot basically). But it certainly wasn't as bad as the fine makes it out as and really didn't change the outcome of that game. Miller throwing that dump pass may have accelerated the inevitable of the Bears coming up short, but not his injury. The Iggles are just going to get lit up anyway this week, just like the Bears would have.
I don't really care about the asterik. It happened, the O was struggling anyways. I would have liked to see what happened if he could have stayed in. BGM - is that all you do is look at numbers? Numbers are not everything. Dilfer won a damn Super Bowl ring putting up crap numbers. Like you said the Bears never really put up big passing numbers all year, I think twice they broke 300yds. What Philly did was stop the Rush and Anthony Thomas was not injured. Shelton was out though and that affected the running game. He was a good blocker, while his replacement Pritchett was not. kidrock8 - your post was too intelligent for me. Please rephrase... Does not compute. Does not compute. Read the rule book - you can't cheapshot a QB "Passer Out of the Play -- A passer who is standing still or fading backwards after the ball has left his hand is obviously out of the play and must not be unnecessarily contacted by the defense through the end of the play or until the passer becomes a blocker, or until he becomes a runner upon taking a lateral from a teammate or picking up a loose ball, or, in the event of a change of possession on the play, until the passer assumes a distinctly defensive position."
I will look at numbers when you claim Jim Miller is some awesome QB that likes to air it out. The truth is no matter who you put out there, the plays are the same, and the offense sucks with those passes. You acted like if Jim Miller were healthy, he'd be able to air it out and drop 200 yards passing on the Eagles, well if you go by his past few games, he has no chance at passing for any amount of yards against the superior Eagle D. Jim Miller...Shane Matthews, they both suck, and Miller getting injured was not that big of a deal compared to other QB's in the league. But yeah, if you had your fullback, you'd suddenly have an offense...
