Hubie Brown is more JVG than JVG! That's the impression after watching the game against Memphis. Memphis played at a playoff level intensiy, pressed Rockets hard on defense, and Rockets just fell apart under presure. Couple of other observations. JVG need to seriously work on the pass to Yao. They should be working on this alone 8 hours a day! Yao need to get better positioning and uses his giant frame to make the pass easier. Guards and forwards need to work on the entry pass, especially lob pass. A couple of passes are thrown completely off, resulted in end-less turn overs. With a 7-6 frame, no team should be ever to dare to front Yao with a 6-11 player! Period! Guards need to seriously work on how to bring the ball quickly under a full court press! I gave credits to Memphis on doing a good job on full-court pressing. But Rockets guards are clueless on beating it. It is basketball fundemetal 101! There is a reason that most team don't do it because it leaves the defense vulnerable. Watching Norris dribble half of the shot clock to start offense, and Taylor has to bring the ball up a couple of times, is purely painful! Boki need more time before he is allowed to play minutes when we need a win! 0-5 FG? Come on, are we intentionally try to lose? On the bride side, Denver, the team we beat handsomely, is going to be a very good team this year. They took out last season's two western conference division leaders. Memphis will be good this year too.
Couple of comments... Didn't Brown start off 0-8? It is still early in the JVG era. Can't read too much into the first game or the second game. Everybody talks about Pike's outside shooting, but CD said he was an excellant passer to the post. Yes we need to be much better at getting the ball to Yao, but right now we are on plan B. Further into the season, I hope to see plans c-zz. I just have to figure that JVG is clear on how important it is to get the ball inside. Boki was only playing because of the injuries to Griffin and Pike. I wish him all the luck in the world, but that guy will have a career on the bench.
