I am a T-Mobile customer eligible for an upgrade. I can either upgrade my phone to the HD2 for $199 or cancel my current account and open a new one to get the Nexus One for $179. I have never owned a smartphone and currently use the Motorola KRZR. So first time for me getting into the whole app/email/web stuff on a phone. I'm a quick learner so I'm not worried about any steep learning curves with smartphones. Also, I don't care for music but do care for being able to watch videos of different formats (but I have no idea which phone would better support that). HD2 Pros: Brilliant screen, MS Office available, Solid O/S HD2 Cons: low number of apps on windows mobile and small user base, slightly bigger than most smartphones, GPS not free Nexus Pros: Lots of apps available, android o/s is open source, Free GPS Nexus Cons: Google tech support is crap atm, no internal storage Which phone should I go for? Feel free to reply with other pros and cons for each phone. Thanks!
I think right now I'd choose the Nexus One, only because the HD2 OS will be out of date in a few months when the new Win 7 series of phone are released. I know a guy who has a Nexus and loves it. I would have gotten a Nexus One, but Google is screwing those of us on the Family Plan and I'm not about to pay $529 for a phone when others can get it for $179.
I was told and have read that Windows mobile was pretty stable and relatively problem free. That not true?
I am in the same boat. But a relative of mine is going to close her current account and open a new one. She doesn't want the phone so I'll end up keeping it for use on my account.
It you're gonna be using it for business or work related activities I guess it would be a decent choice. For anything else I would avoid it like the plague. I've had various Windows mobile phones in the past. Used to flash Roms onto them and such. Even with custom ROMs, they're a generation behind OS's like the Iphone OS, Android and WebOs...
Don't get a contract. Buy the phone for full price and get em+ plan. It ends being a cheaper over the contract. I got the the hd2, but I feel my 3 year old iphone works better at times.
I agree. I bought my N900 and got a great rebate. It feels so good to have an unlocked phone. It's expensive but I don't have to worry about contracts. my plan is $50 with talk/text(unlimited)/data(unlimited)
HD2 with T-Mobile has Windows Mobile. Nexus One has Android and since it's Google's phone, it will be the most up-to-date. Get the Nexus One.
P.S. - I have a Nexus One. I love it. My one gripe is that the touchscreen freaks out sometimes and doesn't register my finger in the correct place. Locking/unlocking the phone fixes it and takes 3 seconds or less, so I don't stress it. Everything else is AWESOME.
Cricket? I get 300 minutes with unlimited data from T-Mobile for $50/mo... ironically, it would cost more if I had the Android data plan instead of the Blackberry one.
I currently have the Nexus One and couldnt be more happier with a phone. The android interface is specatacular and the GPS has come in handy a handful of times. The voice to text feature is my favorite. The fact that the Nexus One doesnt have a FM transmitter is the biggest con on the phone. The windows mobile is something i've always stayed away from. If I had to rank smartphones right now I would probably put them in this order: 1. Iphone (Never been a fan cause everyone has one, but its still number one) 2. Nexus One 3. Nokia N900
Thank you for the inputs and keep them coming! Does anyone know if I can play .avi files on nexus one? Is there an app for it or does the phone come with some kind of video player?
The stock Gallery app on Android OS plays video. Probably depends on the codec which ones it will play, but you can find video converters online for free that will convert your files into ones that can be playable on your phone. Very simple and easy.
