Yao seems like such a loyal guy - to his country and to the Rockets - I know all the trades that go on in the NBA is weird to him. Steve took him under his wing when he came over and though they are not best friends, I think they're close. How do you think Yao is going to react to losing 2, maybe 3, of his teammates? Maybe not just in terms of how he will play next year because I think he will continue to improve, but in terms of how he will start thinking about the business of the NBA. When his rookie contract is up, is there much 'loyalty' anymore when he knows he can't necessarily expect loyalty from the organization? In the past we could say pretty confidently that he will stay with the Rockets, but can we say this now?
Yao should Understand it's all about business man!...i think in the long run it's gonna benefit him more With T-MAC as his running mate!
I think YAO does understand bussiness is bussiness. He felt uncomfortable when he faced the trades of his Rockets teammates first time last off season, only because he did not have such experience in Shanghai. I feel YAO fully understands the importance of trades to the development of both players and NBA organizations. There is an old saying in Chinese that summarizes it well, "Moving a tree makes it die while moving a person makes it better."
Exactly, i think a change can only help Yao's game and benefit the rockets!. it's become plainly Obvious Francis and Gundy just dont get along and are two different types!
But the point of the post is that Yao eventually will learn that there ain't much "loyalties" in America... Yeah, the organization trades players for good, how about Yao going to Bobcats for more money and number one option? Huh? afterall Yao learnt that it's just a business.
When he Says it's myn!!.i believe till now he has been for to Timid, but once he gets more experince under his belt, he'll finaly Assume that responsiblity!
If Yao gets a a playmaker point guard then he will realise how much better off he is . Yao and Francis are mostely incompatible as players and people .
I get the feeling T-Mac would be a player most likley to go up to Yao and say "Its you and me Yao....lets build towards a title." I just dont see Francis as that type of player. No doubt he plays with passion....but I think Yao could use a player that will form a bit of a partnership with him and not leave him out to dry in games like Francis sometimes can do. I think while Franchise would be trying to dribble and make his own shot, T-Mac would be looking for a way to get Yao the damn ball.
Yeah, my point is not that Yao doesn't understand it's a business. He might not have in the past but after the Moochie trades and whatnot he surely understands it. But it's got to hit even harder and the realization must be even starker when it's Steve Francis that is getting traded. So when it comes time for him to re-up his contract, we no longer have that guarantee that he'll stay. If the T-Mac experiment goes awry... he might not be willing to wait around for a retooling of the team.
Yao will be fine. He knows the NBA is a business and the first priority is to win. I am not the least bit worried about signing Yao to an extension.
