How's This For Bad Houston Descriptions

    My wife ran across this www.worldexecutive.com website and it features cities all over the country. The stuff about Houston is REALLY odd and mostly wrong. They sound like they took it from a Houston guidebook from the early 80's, except for the climate section. They have no excuse for that!

    Here's a sample...

    From the retaurant section...

    don't think eating in Houston means just steak and grits; the city has a prodigious number of restaurants representing countless ethnic cuisines. Houston's increasing Latino and Asian populations have spurred a mainstream interest in exotic foods such as curries, chili pastes and fish sauce, as well as ethnic staples such as couscous, enchiladas and tabbouleh.

    Increasing? I'd say more like "increased" 20 years ago. [​IMG]

    From Ettiquitte:

    You regularly see people in the downtown area sporting cowboy boots, cowboy hats and other "Western" apparel.

    Hmmmm.... Better dust off my ropers.

    From Weather (my personal favorite):

    Humidity is highest in October, when it can reach 93 percent even at dawn. Late spring (April and May) and early summer (June and July) are the best times to visit, as the humidity isn't yet at its peak.

    Yeah, I encourage everyone to come on down in July when it is more comfortable than October. October in Houston is the WORST!!! [​IMG]

    Have these people ever been to Houston? It almost sounds like they just decided to make random statements and publish them.

    I almost posted "Where's the basement of the Alamo?", but then I realized that's in San Antonio [​IMG] But these travel guides probably wouldn't know the difference.

    I've never seen someone wearing cowboy apparel downtown. Heck, you don't see anyone wearing boots and hats anywhere in town hardly. Oh, but everyone rides horses and buggys, especially downtown.

    And Houston's "increasing diversity bringing ethnic staples like enchiladas" (WHAT??), I'd put my money on Houston being one of the most diverse cities in the whole world. There's probably at least a handful of people here from every country in the world (including Luxembourg), and you will be challenged to find a more accepting city either. There is nothing Houston lacks in the way of cultural diversity.

    These people are idiots . . .

    LOL! What else does it say?

    Enjoy a professional football contest featuring the NFL's "Oilers" or a baseball match featuring Major League Baseball's "Astros" at the world-famous "Astrodome" (also known as the Eighth Wonder of the World). This multi-purpose dome is the envy of professional sports teams the country over!

    This reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Lisa's class watches a black and white projector film about the hopes of man one day reaching the moon.
