Perhaps this thread will provide a pleasant diversion from all the free agent drama.

Aaron Brooks - most improved player but must get better
    Luis Scola - mr. reliable
Kevin Martin - don't understand the hate on this guy at all
Chase Budinger - general managers will try to steal him
Shane Battier - the heart and soul of the team
Kyle Lowry - need him back
Trevor Ariza - should be more comfortable once Yao returns
Jordan Hill - general managers will try to steal him
Chuck Hayes - wish he was three inches taller
Jared Jeffries - 6.8 million dollar contract expires next summer
    David Andersen - no comment

I debated putting Chase so high, but he's only going to get better and has a rookie contract.

This is tough. I'll assume Yao is healthy again and go from there:

Yao - a brilliant talent, unique in the league, if healthy. A BIG if, no pun imtended.

Brooks - a steal in the draft, production off the charts, especially considering his salary, a matchup nightmare, and fits the game today with the rule changes. If only he could grow about 4 inches!

Martin - perhaps a top five talent in terms of efficiency, he is a terrific talent to have next to Brooks in the backcourt. Add some muscle during the off-season, make it through 75 games a year, learn to be a good team defender, ala Rafer, and we are in great shape at the 2 spot.

Scola - based on his play after Landry was traded, his durability, and a motor that doesn't have an off switch, I placed Luis here, although I was tempted to put him 3rd. What can I tell you... I love the guy. Hell, my wife loves the guy! Keep the hair, Luis, and keep that mojo workin'.

Kyle Lowry - the perfect substitute for Brooks. Has a motor like Scola's, never takes a play off, fearless, excellent defender. Add a couple of inches and a jumper and he's a starter in this league. Like Luis, I hope we can keep him.

Shane Battier - has lost a step, but so damned smart that he can cover for it with intelligence and preparation that may be unmatched in the league. Like Scola and the next guy, the glue that kept this team better than it had any right to be this season. A coach on the floor who's stats don't come close to equaling his impact.

Chuck Hayes - another player I love to watch. Take what I said about Shane, add the inches I wish Brooks had, and we wouldn't be able to afford him. The Chuckster rules!

Trevor Ariza - finally was able to play his position at the 3 after the Martin trade and showed us why we got him. An excellent player when he's not asked to do too much and still improving (I hope!). Next season should be a breakout year for him, or else we need to trade the dude.

Chase Budinger - like Brooks, a steal in the draft. I can't believe Morey was able to grab him in the second round. He never should have fallen that far, but Dork Elvis knew to snatch Air Bud and make him a Rocket. After getting over the ups and downs almost all rookies go through, he should have a huge year next season and will get more minutes. He can be as good as his desire will take him. Not as good as DaDakota thinks he'll be, but damned good.

Jordan Hill - Morey raped the Knicks. He told them to bend over and they asked how far, thus we have a rookie 4 that was projected by some to be taken at the 5th spot during the last draft. I would have put him higher on this list, but I want to see how he is this coming season. I'm hoping it all comes together for him. Jordan has the physical talent to eventually be a borderline all star. Does he have the desire and the motor to manage it? Time will tell.

Jared Jeffries - he's not a "taller Chuck." Frankly, I still don't have a handle on how useful he is to the Rockets, but he's got that expiring contract, some defense, and every once in a while discovers some offense (then promptly loses it).

The rest of the guys? Show me something worth talking about.

Yao Ming - superstar when healthy
Aaron Brooks -great shooter and scorer. runs PG spot well.
Kevin Martin -scorer we need at SG position.
Luis Scola - gives us hustle and offense. spaces floor well.
Kyle Lowry -change of pace PG off bench. Great as backup.
Trevor Ariza - very good as a 5th option.
Chase Budinger - good off bench. needs to improve.
Jordan Hill - has tools to be great. effective backup now.
Chuck Hayes - great as a defensive specialist. not a starting C.
Shane Battier - seems to be aging. still a good but not great defender. needs to get shooting percentages back up.
Jared Jeffries - decent role player. can defend. trade bait.
Jermaine Taylor - improving young player could earn playing time this season.
David Andersen - shooting big man who can't shoot.
Mike Harris - played great in Rio Grande.
    Alexander Johnson - fringe player
