Patterson is an overall safe and solid pick. Generally speaking, that type of player warrants a B or C grade. I voted B.
A. Safe pick, and might turn out better than Scola and Hill IN THE LONG RUN, assuming we don't trade him.
No way, no how that he will ever be better than Scola. It remains to be seen if he'll be better than Hill, but Hill's upside is higher. I gave the pick a C, but it wasn't really because of Patterson. Anyone we picked at 14 would have been a C. We should have either traded up, or traded down-we needed a center, imo, and mid first round was a terrible place to get one.
Yeah every team in the league are idiots for not picking Whiteside in the first round You don't draft based on position, you draft based on BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE. Patterson was it. Based on how polished a player he is and given that it is the middle of the 1st round in a not very deep draft, I give it an A. Easy A.
according to JCF - patterson was rated #6 overall on the rockets' draft board, so if their metrics are right, they got a steal. myself, i don't think he's talented enough to be #6 on anyone's draft board, but obviously i trust the rockets know what they are doing. if he's really that good, this is a home run pick.
I think you are REALLY underrating Scola. Patterson had plenty of time in college and has never even shown flashes of being able to hold Scola's jock.
i give them an A, especially considering who was left on the board at that time... let's watch adelman make a player out of this guy. i love that he played at kentucky. maybe chuck hayes will stick around after all
True. If Patterson ends up being better than Scola, I will happily eat my words. I think he'll be a solid role player no matter what, though.
B- right now, but you really cannot grade this until the season starts and even better in 3 years to see what happens with all these players.
picked the best player available. Expect the "splash" to come after July first when the big free agents see what's on the table
