I thought they would stay about the same or decrease this year due to his time off the ball... but in another thread I basically got called a fool for thinking it would possibly go down. Certainly, there will be more possessions this year but I doubt that TMac will handle the ball nearly as much as he did last year. What do you guys think?
You're not a fool and it is a reasonable assumption to make given that he will not be called upon to be the playmaker as much this season. I think history would be on your side as well. TMac has a career average of 4.6 but has consistently been around 5 - 5.5 assists per game for the five years leading up to last year when he was a full assist per game over those previous five years. Given that, I think it is reasonable to assume he could settle back to around 5.5 per game. Yes, there will be more possessions. However, the offense will not be run with the ball in Tmac's hands. I think the team assist numbers will likely increase, but I could easily see a scenario where McGrady sees his assist numbers come down a little.
They will definately decrease by 1.5 at least but I think Yao's will increase. T-mac: Decrease in Minutes/Assist/Points Yao: Increase in Assist Decrease in Rebounds,Points/Minutes
I think they will decrease. With Van Gundy's system, it seemed like when the offense stalled, T-Mac had to create something and that usually led to wide open shots for teammates. Now that it's more of a run-n-gun sort, all the guards are just going to push it and that'll take pressure of McGrady.
Tmac is one of the best playmakers in NBA. No coach will ignore his assist ability. I don't think his assist numbers will decrease.
Good thread Well I'm pretty sure his asists are gonna decrease so that's why I picked up the option number 3. Of course Adelman's system means more passin' but I think this time it will be more passin' from big guys ti guys like Tracy. He's gonna get more passes from temmates, most if the time he's gonna play off the ball and he's gonna get more open and easier positions and what that means more chances to score. I think this year his assists are gonna decrease to about 5 per game
I see a decrease, but nothing significant. All Adelman has talked about recently is perimeter players making hard cuts and picks. I'm sure much of the passing will come out of the high post, but T-Mac has already shown that he is ready, willing, and capable of finding the open man in such scenarios.
I think his playing time and assists will go down. Since we are deeper, he won't need as many minutes and I expect more blowout wins than last year. (IMO, his playing time is almost guaranteed to go down). When Tracy is on the court, he won't need to iso and dominate the ball as much since there are more scorers and Adelman's offense is predicated on movement without the ball. What will increase is the number of shots Tracy gets FROM other players. In conjunction, his assists to other players will go down. I will be very disappointed if Tracy's shot selection and shooting percentage don't improve.
We have lots of PG's this year so his apg will decrease since he isn't leader passer in the team. I would say his ppg will slightly increase, not asists.
