Since the monologues of all the major late night shows (Jay, Conan, Dave) all center around news, how are these shows going to go about making fun of the? Certainly Condit is now out of the news. How will the comedians handle this?
But thats all they got..... Oh crap I just realized we will have to go through five straight nights of Jay Leno's "Headlines" .... Am I the only one that doesn't think typos are all that funny?? (besides those gay suckers, that I have to admit is funny )
I was thinking about the the other night, ZRB. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be seeing Will Ferrel spoofing GWB for a little while.
I'm more curious as to what will get said by Bill Maher and his guests on Politically Incorrect that to what the late night people will be saying. His guests should be interesting this week.
Same here. I never miss a monday night of Leno. To the topic, I've been wondering about this too. I mean, political jokes are a ton of what they do and what else is really funny. It's definitely gonna be weird. And are they actually coming back on tonight.
If Bill wasn't generally such an ******* and they didn't take a commercial break every 30 seconds, this would really be a great show to watch. But I guess I'll tune in tonight just to see what happens.
Headlines are my favorite Tonight Show bit. But there's still 15 minutes of monologue before the headlines start.
I'll ask again. Are the shows coming back on tonight or has it not yet been determined when they will return.
Last I heard, the Tonight Show will not be back tonight. Don't know about the rest. I like the headlines, too, by the way.
Here's an article: Late Night Hosts Ponder Joke-Free Shows As the country grieves over last week's terrorist attacks, those who make their living by cracking wise are unsure how to proceed after nearly a weeklong shutdown. CBS's The Late Show With David Letterman, which is based in New York, returned to the airwaves on a serious note with CBS news anchor Dan Rather in the guest chair. Over in Burbank, Calif., an official for The Tonight Show With Jay Leno told the New York Post before today's show was taped, "We're going to try and ease back into it slowly. Jay said he's not going to do any political jokes." A spokeswoman for Late Night With Conan O'Brien said that the real-life events will be handled in a "sensitive manner," when the NBC show resumes taping in New York on Tuesday. Comedy Central has decided to delay the return of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, given that its raison d'ĂȘtre is to poke fun at current events. "When you're talking about a show that is a news parody and the news is so consumed [with] this tragedy, what's funny about what's unfolding here? Nothing," spokesman Tony Fox told The Associated Press. "As someone at the show said succinctly, 'irony is dead for the moment."' The network has also pulled reruns of the already-canceled satirical show That's My Bush!, rather than poke fun at the president during this national crisis. Terrorist Victim Was Scheduled to Appear on Politically Incorrect At ABC's Politically Incorrect, last Tuesday's attacks took on an even more personal meaning, the Post reports. Commentator Barbara Olson, one of the victims who died on a hijacked plane, was a frequent guest of the show and had been booked to appear on the show's panel the day of her death. Olson was a friend of P.I. host, Bill Maher. "It's been devastating to Bill and to all of us here," the show's executive producer, Marilyn Wilson, told the Post. When P.I. returns to the air, the show is likely to feature an empty chair "in memory of Olson," Wilson said. "She was a special guest to us, and we want to pay tribute to her," Wilson said. "Our show is a forum to talk about things like what happened on Tuesday in New York and Washington. But it's not going to have the kind of irreverent tone that we have usually. It'll be more thoughtful and more serious."
Well Letterman was almost in tears several times at the start of his show. Dan Rather is on and I thought he said something about Regis being on (at least we have something to make fun of Dave said). Could be wrong about both but I don't think I am.
Letterman handled it well. Good show, you could tell he was really wrestling with the decision of being on the air. IMO, the Tonight Show hasn't been all that great since Johnny left. Just personal preference, never found Leno all that funny.
I like Conan's show the most. He's funnier than the other hosts. I actually love Jay and Conan's headlines. Me too. Jay's headlines are better (cuz they're real) but I like the way Conan says "You can't make this stuff up!"
"In the yeeaaar two-thoouuuuu-sand." I love that Sting's "In The Year 2000" was the best I've seen (admittedly, I haven't seen too many )
