I just got this in an email, and it took me a while to read the first sentence, and then it just got really easy to read. But maybe it's just because I work with kids that can't spell 85% of these words anyway.... Either way, it's interesting.

Yeah, I used to do that, and then half the time, I'd get through a few pages and realize that I hadn't really READ a single word on any of them.... but now that I'm working at a school and I'm helping kids learn to read and spell and whatnot, I'm a much slower reader because I actually read every word... Oh well. I like having the mental capacity of the kids I teach. Life's more fun this way.

I like hearing the words vs reading... I'd never finish a Anne Rice/ Tom Clancy/ John Grisham novel otherwise

I should probably expand my reading horizons, but like my diet, I'm torn between something I know I will like vs. something new I might not

Yeah, this stuff has been around for a few years floating through emails. The fun part is actually finding typos within the mis-spellings.... :)

What's sad is how many people truly can't read (or write!) well. I've always rewarded my kids for good grades by taking them to a bookstore (Book People, Barnes & Noble) and buying them one or two books. I've done that with both of them from the time they could get a grade in anything. Coincidentally, they've always read several grades ahead of where they are, at least according to testing at school. We read to them all the time. We still read to our 3rd grader, although she reads herself at the middle school level. (she read Harry Potter when she was 7 or 8)

    (sorry. shameless parental bragging!)

Like the NBA spots say... reading is fundamental. So is writing.

    (gets off soapbox)

I too hear each word in my head as I read them, so I am a bit slower at reading.

But I had absolutely no problem with reading your post.

Maybe it's because I am a bit dislexic?

That was pretty cool. I went through it with no problems. Amazing what these swollen heads at Cmrdgibae come up with.

Jeez. A year and a half ago. Isn't there a statute of limitations on something llike this? I mean, seriously, had it been posted last week, I'd gladly accept the title of moron for a few days. But 18 months? That's stretching it. Besides, how the hell was I supposed to know to search for that?

    Thread Nazi. :D

I was scared to click on that thread for fear of finding out about some deep dark secretive thing that guys do that I did not ever want to know about. But since it's just about being obsessed with the BBS, I guess I'll go back and read it. :)

What's amazing is that thread sure as hell doesn't seem like it was a year and a half ago.

    Damn you time! Slow down!
