so heres the story, at first i was given out-of-state tuition because i was from New York City, however, my mother was given a job at one of the hospitals belonging to the university, which makes me eligble for state tuition, and which the university approves. now, i have to register for classes today at 8 pm, yet, i just found out i can't because i owe $4000 in tuition, where the **** did this come from?? gee...they still managed to bill me as an out of state student and even if i manage to clear this up today, it will take them at least 2 days to allow me to register again which makes it ****ing monday......a lot of the classes i want to take are almost full, no way i am gona get those classes if register on monday, and because i am only eligible for certain classes, my selections are limited, if i cant keep 15 credits i will loose my scholorship, i ****ing hate this school, this ****ing boringass state, all the ignorant ***holes here, and i cant wait to transfer to a SUNY where i only pay 5 grand a year and scholorships can take care of the rest

Yeah, I'd be wary of any college that has a turtle as their mascot...

I don't mean to piss you off even more but I have some questions. Did you not get a bill? If so, did you not see there was a balance on it? When did they put the stop on your record? Did you not see an advisor to plan out which classes to take this semester? If so, did they not mention that you had a stop? If they put a stop on there just a couple of weeks before registration started without any warning I could understand why you would be pissed, but when things like that happen here, the stop usually goes on in the middle of the semester at least a month before registration starts after a bill has gone unpaid.

Anyway, I will give you same advise I give students here. If a class does get full and you need it (like really need it, not just want to take it) talk to the department about it IMMEDIATELY.

i got the bill TODAY, the day i am suppose to register for classes, i talked to my advisor almost 2 weeks ago, which discussed my options for next year, which turns out to be 17 credits total, we already choose the classes, the ones which i am eligible for, she did not mention any stops or anything at all, and even said i am all good to go, when i checked my online tool for registration a few days ago to check the schedules , the only thing stopping me was the date, which said i can only register after after december 1st, 8PM, and now i check it, i get this bull**** notice......*sign* they already messed me up laster semester because i was guarnteed a spot for biology lab if i declared my major as Biology, and i did, 2 days later, i get a letter saying all classes are full, man they have no efficiency what so ever.....

I assume it is safe to say, this wasn't an english/grammar scholarship.... :D :D :D

Just giving you a hard time, I'm sorry....but that does stink, however seems par for the course for universities and how they handle their business and students. I hope everything turns out ok.

One thing I learned in college was that pretty much anything is possible if you talk to the right people, both financially and in terms of taking classes. but you have to suck it up and talk to someone. The people working at universities tend to be very nice and understanding on the whole. There are a few hardasses, but most of the time you get what you want and what you need if you talk to the right person.

Welcome to the wonderful world of big state universities, where the bureacracy is thick and plentiful..

I got screwed over a few times by both my undergrad, CAL,and my grad school, U of MN, for all sorts of snafus like this. Don't take its personally its just part of the redtape in government institutions.

OK, that sucks. You have every right to be completely pissed. Just remember this one thing and you will have successful dealings with all levels of University employees. BE NICE. It's OK to be pissed off in private but if you get cross with anybody that works for the University, they will automatically do the absolute minimum required to help you. While that is not true for all of them it is true for most. You have to understand the mentality of a University / State worker. They don't make jack crap and get absolutely no recognition for what they actually do accomplish. The only thing they have is a very limited amount of power and they will use it to either help you as much as they can or crush your existence. So BE NICE and don't whine. That doesn't mean you have to bend over and take it, you can advocate for yourself and they will repect that you are doing so, but you have to be nice about it. Just imagine that you are speaking to a Judge that can either waive a hefty fine or send you jail.
    Oh and good luck.

My University is shutting down the small house (dorm) in which I live after this semester. Sucks because it's an academic one (24 hour noise restrictions) and my girlfriend lives here too. So the only way I can stay with my current roommate (who I chose) is to move to a small house far away from campus that isn't academic.

Anyone who spells "lose" as "loose" doesn't deserve a scholarship anyway. :D

FINALLY GOOD NEWS, i have gotten this issue resolved. It took about two hours, but I was able to get in touch with the Busar's (sp) office (after talking to at least 10 other people, including my advisor and the course professors), and talked with the head of that office, I did degrade my self a bit by begging but hey, thats what it takes i guess. At least I can register for 17 Creds next term

Way to go homey. Genuflection is good for the soul and in this case, the ends justified the means.
