seriously, he blows by EVERYONE we throw at him. I closed my eyes after that dunk and knew he would drive again in the next possession (which he did) If he does this in game 5, we're toast! How would you defend him if you were Rick?
Have Woods foul him hard, and make them both get ejected...No woods, No williams....Its a win, win for us
Our guards need to attack him offensively. I thought Rafer should have gone to the hoop late in the game when Williams was noticeably in pain. I figured Adelman would have given Brooks a chance to burn Deron a few times but it never happened. I also noticed that he got very frustrated when he wasn't getting calls so that may work in our favor as well. The keys to slowing this guy are not that much different than any other player: Foul him hard when he goes to the rim and have his man be very aggressive offensively.
Replace Rafer's Hamstring for a new one or that the Refs let Houston play defense to Deron as they do to T-Mac.
Put T-Mac on him, and have T-Mac take less shots. T-Mac is being defended too heavily so he needs to make more shots available to his team (not just assists) and take up another role - lockdown defender - for a few games in this series. I know he can do it. He's the only one who has the size + quickness to keep Deron in check.
it wouldn't be. Tracy can be a great defender but only if he wants. He can easily stop Williams, couse he is long and quick enough. And on the other and Rafer needs to be agressive to just force him to play D
It would be a disaster because we would seriously overwork T-mac. He's already tired and he's not even having to guard anybody. So let me get this straight he should Guard Deron Williams, and then he still would have to score and create for his teammates. This has disaster written all over it.
Just like he shut down Ronnie Brewer, their 5th option in the starting lineup? Did you see Brewer blaze past McGrady on the baseline in the 1st half? The problem with your theory is that while T-Mac can play outstanding defense for 1 or 2 possessions, he can't sustain it. This will not work against Deron. I believe shutting down, or slowing down, Williams is the absolute key to this series. I would try Battier on him and if that doesn't work, take turns. We need to do something to slow him down, especially late in the game, or we will inevitably lose one of the next 3 games.
Deron is not that good comparing T-MAC IMG, make him to the left side, when he drive , he always goes to right to finish or pass. sadly, our coaches haven't noticed that yet. btw, RA makes the hugh mistake by not calling the time out after Deron first FT miss, can't believe experienced coach like him, not Put BIG GUY FOR THE REBOUND!!!! just waste hugh chance the take the serise back!!!! admit or not, we just lost our biggest game of season!
Give him space, let him shoot over you, he does have a midrange but squared up on the 3 pt line I would dare him to shoot it right over me. Landry does a nice job to cut him off sometimes, but when they iso they have to give him space. They have to communicate better
yall want tmac to guard deron? he can't even put his hands up when brewer is only a few inches away cause he is too tired/lazy. whatever, you want to say the reason is.
Spy coverage type sets, alot of teams use it for Kobe. Even though, Deron is nowhere near a sgood as Kobe. He should be everyone's responsibility where there is always a second person watching out for him inside the perimeter.
I think we can't really stop him, but we can avoid easy baskets he get 4 or 5 time a game. That is killing us. Espacially when Brooks is his match-up. I think Rafer did a good job early on him but in the last quarter Deron made like 2 easy lay-ups. We can't put T-Mac or Battier on him because Jazz are tall, if Battier guards Williams, Alston will have to guard Korver or Brewer and we will get killed more.
I think Deron is really good and can score on a lot of players... I think one thing we can do is put Deke in, but then we give up other things in doing that...but Deke would provide shotblocking... The stretch where Deron scored 3 times in a row in the 4th quarter last game..showed what he can do when the other players get out of the way and let him do whatever. He can dominate. On another note, I think our guards could probably get past Deron as well... A problem is so many of our guys are hobbling and limping and..their legs are bruised up or something else.. I think the Jazz could capitalize on Deron's ability to just own it up every time down the court...we'll see
