I'm not Bob Vila or Tim the tool man Taylor, so i need a little help in screwing a shelf into a wall. The shelf seems too heavy for regular sheetrock, and i've seen equipment that will located the pillars of wood i think on TV. Can someone give me a rought outline to specific details in how i would go about nailing/screwing a shelf into a wall?
If you don't have a stud finder, just remember that most studs have 16" centers (16 inches from the center of one to the center of the next) Also, buy you a laser level. Best damn tool there is.
Get a studfinder (home depot or lowes) Find the studs (wood) in the wall using the studfinder so that you can screw the screws into the stud. Make sure the screws that you use are long enough to achor the shelf securely. It may be too tough to screw them in with just screw driver, if so drill a pilot hole (hole smaller than the screw) and then screw them in that. the studs should be either 16 or 24 inches apart from center to center. Then once you know where you want to mount it just follow the directions for putting the shelving together (hopefully it came with some). Hope that helps
