Folks, We all know that Cato is a bust, and we need to move him. We also know that Dan Issel is a nut and before he gets the boot from the GM position, we need him to do one more bad trade. Both Cato and Tariq Abdul-Wahad have exactly similar, outrageous contracts. While Cato has little offense and little defense, TAW atleast has some defense and runs the floor well on the break. If he was to back up Mobley at the 2, I'm sure he can give us 10-12 decent minutes. If we do this trade, we won't really be ridding ourselves of a huge contract, but atleast we will be getting rid of Cato (!!). Now considering that Raef is supposedly on the block as well, we can ship Shandon and some fillers/pick to get Raef down here. I think Raef Lafrentz would be ideal with this team. Issel probably wants to get rid of TAW more than we want to get rid of Cato, so we might be able to smooth talk him into sending Raef as well. -Tariq ------------------
How long is Wahads contract? I dont think I would do that trade. I rather have a big guy who is a bust, then a 2 or 3 who is a bust. Big guys will always have some trade value, and Cato will always be a shot blocking threat with the zone system. Wahad I believe cant shoot from outside, he is not that good of a slasher either, so this renders him useless. ------------------
If it can get Cato's lazy ass outta here....I'll take 3 shandersons, hell 4, we can put a couple on the IR. Maybe that's a little extreme....nah ------------------
My point was to get Raef as a part of the deal as well. Trading TAW for Cato straight up, won't get the deal done for either side, but if we send Shandon plus fringe players and maybe a pick for Raef and TAW, I think Dan Issel would listen. I think it would be a good idea to see who Denver drafts this year, if it another big man with a lot of promise, then I think LaFrentz really becomes expendable. With LaFrentz, Collier and Hakeem, we can be set at the center. CWebb/MoTaylor can fill the PF slot, so all we would really need is a Small Forward in this draft. ------------------
Good idea, tariq. If the Rocks could get LaFrentz, why not put him at the 4, especially if CWebb doesn't sign here. PF is LaFrentz's natural position, he would be an upgrade over Mo. He's a better shot-blocker and rebounder with similar range and a better post game. Use #13 on Jefferson, #22-23 (if not dealt) on the best available C or PF, someone like Jason Collins or even Morris, and resign Dream. Lineup: C - Dream, Collier (Collins?\Jones?) PF - LaFrentz, Thomas (Morris?\Cisse?) SF - (Jefferson\Wallace\Battier\Johnson), Langhi, Bullard SG - Mobley, TAW PG - Francis, Mooch ------------------
Live, Are you concluding that we won't be keeping Taylor and won't be getting Webber? -tariq ------------------
No, tariq, I'm just posing a scenario that excludes Mo and CWebb in the event that they both go elsewhere. ------------------
whoa, whoa, whoa... why exactly would we trade raef and wahad for SA and cato? that doesnt give us anymore wins, anymore cap room, or fulfil any real needs. oh, and we dont own any draft picks to select a big man anyways. ------------------ the nuggets suck...i know, i know!
Actually, Keeping him this season may be worthy to the rox. With the new rules and the zone defense that is perfect for slow and Lazy (Cato) big men. Rockets can use him by planting him under the basket on defense next to Hakeem for his shotblocking ( only thing that he is good at) against penetrators. Plus, since the zone defense concentrates the five defenders around the basket and the three frontline players under the defending basket it makes it very difficult for the opposing big men to fight and get offensive rebound, therefore making rebounding easier for the likes of Mo Taylor and Cato. By keeping him the Rockets might end up having two and sometimes three sevenfooters ( if they sign Cwebb AND Hakeem) under the basket that can block shots and create fast break points for their lightening quick back court. ------------------ Formely Rocketincleveland. Nuggets fans, I guess you guys wouldn't go for a Cato/Shandon(S&T)/#13 for TAW/LaFrentz? Don't know if that works out salary-wise, but I thought the #13 might provide the incentive for Denver to do the trade. If we somehow managed to grab Morris with the #22 (I say convince Vancouver to take the #18 to fulfill the pick debt we owe them if Orlando sends it to us), signed two out of Webber/Dream/Mo T, that would give us a line-up of: Steve/Mooch Cuttino/ Morris/Langhi/Bullard/Walt (Webber)(Mo T)/Kenny (Dream)/Raef/Collier Aside from getting Denver to do the trade, the key problem is getting Shandon to agree to a sign&trade. I bet he would if it were for a larger contract, but that would likely mean taking up cap room, which CD won't do so that we'll have enough to sign Webber. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Relativist (edited May 05, 2001).]
Ding Ding Ding! we have a winner! If SA agrees to a sign and trade it will be to a team of his choosing most likely. And i doubt denver is on his list. ------------------ snap crackle pop
Why not deal Shandon Anderson (sign and trade) to Atlanta (his home) and our #22 for their pick, assuming they don't hit the #1, #2 or #3 lotto. This way they get a veteran "Jason Richardson" and a first rounder. We use their pick for Diop and get Joe Johnson with our #13. If we really got creative we could then trade Cato and Walt Williams and our #18 to Sacramento, New Jersey, Cleveland, Detroit or Boston to get a Griffin, Battier, Bradley or Woods/Haywood (the latter to get us through the Diop growing period). ------------------ Writesmart
huh? that deal was GREAT for us. hopefully we keep pack. the dude was amazing the last few months, while stith (who i still think is cool) didnt do much in boston after a nice start. ------------------ the nuggets suck...i know, i know!
i think someone offered this before and i dont think i like it too much. the 13th pick really isnt going to be much more than a bench role player for years to come, cato sucks according to you guys, and SA isnt going to give us many wins. not worth losing raef for. ------------------ the nuggets suck...i know, i know!
ok sounds good. i guess the SA to denver rumors are done then right? ------------------ the nuggets suck...i know, i know!
