Ive got windows 98.....I usually can get the icons aff of my desktop and into a folder so that my desktop is clear and neat. For some reason I cant get any of thse icons off of the screen and into a folder. Can anyone here tell me how to do this? I also used to take icons that i needed more than others such as AIM and my internet connection and firefox and put them on the bottom next to the Start button. I had these settings just like I wanted them and somehow managed to screw everything up. Can someone help me?

Wow, Windows 98...time to upgrade man. :)

I'm not sure what to tell you as I haven't touched 98 in about 5 years. I don't remember if you can get rid of icons like My Computer, Network Neighborhood, and Recycle Bin. Everything else you should be able to just right click+drag into a folder and select 'Move Here.' Another thing to check is right click on your desktop. I bet there is an option somewhere in their that says something like "lock icons on desktop." Make sure that is unchecked otherwise you wont be able to move them.

As for the icons next to the start menu, thats called the quick launch bar. I use it for everything, but I'm also on XP. For XP to enable the quick launch bar you just right click anywhere in the task bar (the area between the start menu and clock), choose properties and there is an option to show quick launch. Once again though I don't remember how you do this in 98, but it's probably about the same.

You need PowerToys for Windows 98. Search for "Windows 98 PowerToys" on Microsoft's site or in download.com . It has an "only display these icons on my desktop" function which may help. Look for another program, TopDesk, which hides all the icons and places an image on the icontray that, when you click it, displays EVERYthing on your desk on a small toolbar where you can execute each one separately.

You know you're 7 years behind, right? ;)
