When playing man to man, pick and roll seem to give Houston the most problem. The fault does not lie, however, with the players but with the strategy of defending it. Rudy always like to keep the big man in limbo behind the pick while the guard is getting picked left and right. Though seemingly this strategy would reduce the ability of the guard with the ball to penetrate, in reality, it open up space for their guard to either go right at our big man or shot a wide open jumper. I think the best pick and roll defense I've seen is by Pistons where the big man would aggressively force the guards backwards while the rest of the team play the passing lane forcing the offense to regroup farther from the three point line then the location of the initial pick. Of course the method above might not work with Yao since it's tough for him to get back once he gets way out there on the floor, so the best way against pick and roll for the Rockets is still a zone defense which for I don't know why Rudy have refused to properly utilize in the certain situations.
