This is a quiz developed by the American Enterprise Institute and Charles Murray the author of The Bell Curve to test to see how in touch you are with most of America, or in D & D terms how much of a liberal elite cheese munching blame America firster you are. :p

I scored between 13 to 16 meaning I have no bubble. Working in food service for many years helped reduce my bubble.

As did I, but I kinda guessed on the NASCAR guy. Is it Jimmie Johnson?

Mine says being a part of the upper class, I still am in touch with the rest of America.

    About right.

On a scale from 0 to 20 points, where 20 signifies full engagement with mainstream American culture and 0 signifies deep cultural isolation within the new upper class bubble, you scored between 0 and 4.

In other words, your bubble is so thick you may not even know you're in one.

"If you pass this test, you just might be a redneck."

Mine says I'm part of the upper class, but I've been poor most of my life. I've worked in a factory and did construction before. I don't know who the race car driver is but I'm guessing if you're not white, chances are you probably don't either.

I was pretty sure that was Jimmie Johnson so I answered yes.

Meh. Stupid questions. If you count warehouse floor as a factory floor, I'm at 14. I didn't know the Nascar guy, I don't hang out with people who smoke, neither I nor Mrs. rimrocker served in the Armed Forces, I've never watched Oprah, and I don't stock my fridge with any beer at all.

Murray and his gang have all the subtlety of a crew of pith-helmeted victorian explorers gawking at pygmies from a boat.

They find a bubble because they want to find a bubble and like to find stark divisions that match a black-and-white vision of the world. You can know who Jimmie Johnson is and have no interest in NASCAR

Reality is a lot more complicated Sure I used to watch wrestling and guzzle sh-tty beer, then I stopped because the beer tastes like sh-t, and nobody can really like wrestling for more than a 3-5 year span (I had two such windows...) without getting tired of it. People aren't nearly as pigeonholeable as he wishes.

quiz was too easy as worded.

Ever worked on factory floor? Yes...summer job -- shouldn't count -- totally different exp from a lifer. Ever been to union/kiwanis -- again -- a couple. Different from being an active member. Should limit all answers to last five yrs or things you actively do. There should never be bonus points for watching a full episode of Oprah. Meh.

I got the 5 to 8 answering more realistically. Answering as worded felt a bit like dressing up Romney in jeans and a flannel shirt.

You scored between 9 and 12.

In other words, even if you're part of the new upper class, you've had a lot of exposure to the rest of America.

    9-12

I don't drink (and certainly not PBR), hunt or fish. But I've eaten at an Applebee's and I know who Jimmy Johnson is.
