How superstitious are you when it comes to sports?

If my team is on a winning streak, I keep everything as is - my cell phone wallpaper, desktop wall paper, etc. I know it sounds ridiculous, how could one from afar determine the fate of his favorite team? But still, sometimes it feels like it truly matters if I don't do these certain things.

What are some of your sports superstitions?

Used to be, but I eventually realized two decades of Rockets sucking has nothing to do with me.

I have never gone to a game (any sport) and have the team I root for lose.

I'm only superstitious if I'm actually playing the sport, but even then, it's just a matter of routine. Helps psychologically to establish a rhythm and pattern to things. Keeps you focused.

When I mark my golf ball on the green, I always use a half dollar and have the top of JFKs head point to the hole. Watching sports, I don't really have many superstitions, but when OU plays, there is one particular shirt I will not wear. They always seem to lose when I wear that shirt.

If you're talking about participating in sports, I always take a big **** before playing. I tend to perform better. Don't know if that's superstition or not.

Ever since the first Championship, there are a few things that I have done over the years when I think my team might need me (Big games, mostly).

    1) Certain kind of beer, positioned properly between myself and the tv. This used to be easier, when I drank drank that beer. These days, I have to make a special trip. Well, I would if the Rockets would play in a big game.

    2) Have to be wearing some kind of shirt/gear/whatever. Again, more important for a big game, but if they lose and I'm not wearing it, I have to admit I half-jokingly allow myself to feel a bit responsible.

    3) This one was used during the first Rockets championship, and I stuck to it for years, and even re-applied it lately. If things get tight, I go to the book and call the "Lucky Dog" play. This, like the others, worked great back in 94, so occasionally when the chips are down, I call out my lucky dog, and give her a good firm pat on the back end, scratch her on the ear, and the team will make something happen. This was put into practice this past year with a new team (Texans) and a new dog (Original lucky dog has been gone a while now).

Lastly... I have a little 'curse' that I used to force Nick the Brick into his downward spiral. I don't unleash it often for fear of its great power, but I must say when put correctly to use, it can do some damage. Somewhat ridiculous, but potent. Stronnnnnng stuff.

As for sports when playing, I used to play a lot of tennis, and like Donny said, would get into rituals and routines to keep my focus. I don't know how superstitious it was up front, but after a while when the little things matter more than the big things, I would have to take a step back and remind myself of priorities. Of course, that too became part of the ritual, after a while.
