Realistically. We can't match Seattle's money. We can't match Dallas's glitz. What can we say to get him to join? 1) Playing time? 2) Hometown? 3) Honest management? (we treat our players right?) 4) New arena? 5) More exciting team? ... .. err... i've run out of ideas. maybe Stevie and Cuttino can pester him with phone calls like they did to Webber last year?
6. Your peops won't have to fly to watch you play. 7. You'll have much better depth with the Rocks, esp on the frontline(and more power there) 8. The Rockets play better defense (than Dallas anyway, otherwise that was hard to type). 9. You can pick up TWO foreign languages instead of just German. 10. You can play some exhibition games in China. OK somebody else pick it up. One negative we may not be able to top Dallas on though: Can't go to your local DQ and have Les serve you a Blizzard!
- Stevie & Cat pestering him w/phone calls is a great idea! - Show him all of H-town's new construction(not just the stadium) and explain to him that he a part of the new construction of a basketball dynasty! - Build him a huge billboard(with his mug on it) right by his family's new house - Ask him how many Championships have any other team that is considering him have won in the last decade that have the same coaching staff to train him still! - Remind him that all his life he grew up wanting to be a "hometown hero" playing for the Rockets and make him think about all the times that he was on the court when he was a kid...what team did you "DREAM" os being on?
Lil, I like your approach, but... 1) depending upon a/the S&T Lewis, Rice and Nachbar all vie for playing time, with Griffinn and T Mo filling in for deep bench duties. 2) true, but Dallas is not far. 3) Cuban treats his palyers very well. And all the extra coaches can only help improve a kid who did not get four years of "fundamentals" training. 4) Dallas is in a brand new arena, aren't they? 5) I think Dallas is not only a very exciting team, but hot to boot. Not to say we can't pass them, but we have to get there first. Now SA you are quite creative 6. 6) true, but minor. Easily solved with money, of which he has plenty. 7) maybe. Dallas is deep and plays everybody. Besides, didn't we play Walt Williams at center once last year. 8) talk about damning with faint praise. Neither team has much to brag about based on last years D. 9) Dallas leads the league in foriegn players. 10) now that's cool. FranchiseRules is on the right track. Seattle has the money battle won. We have hometown, which is a plus, but not much more than that. If we want him we have to show the love. Me I would be swayed by $15,000,000.00 over three years (and out as long as we are talking about me) but in modern day sports, even a crappy contract is set for life, so it boils down to the ego thing. For some, money stokes the ego, others the ring, some the adoration. We just have to find his hot button and push it. I am in sales. I have had pretty good success by directly asking people what they want. If I can't deliver it, we stop there. If I can deliver, I try to prove that I can, and why me vs someone else. I think the key is showing interest, getting his feedback, more interest, more feedback, etc.
They don't want him, and we don't need him. Another no defense playing non dribbling SF... Pass. DaDakota
Like I said before, the Rockets aren't going to get caught up in this game. Lewis is pushing Seattle for money and they will give in sooner or later. We will give a little lip sevice in the media about how we'd "love to have him" but realistically we can't afford him. I think the organization is high on Boki anyway. Our MCE will be spent on a big guy.
Don't want, Don't want, Don't want...Don't want no defense playing non dribbling SF...Don't want, Don't want, Don't want...
We don't need Lewis, there will not be enough shots to share with. We got Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Thomas and Yao who can all score. I think we need Laker quality role players. Ya know, the type of just go out and do their job player that every team needs.
Same way we got Barkley.. now that he's over 21, its time for... Houston's world class titty bars!!!!!
There is absolutely no point for us to go out and try to woo him over. He knows what we are about, he's lived here for 18yrs and probably watched every Rockets game while here. If he wants to come home, let him, but we shouldn't have to persuade him to or give him a party.
I was against Lewis as a free agent pick up. Too much money, not a good defender, and mostly shoots outsise. Basically my stereotype of a one dimensional player. But a while back I spoke to a guy from Seattle. We were at a Round Rock baseball game and he showed himself as a knowledgeble bseball fan. I asked him if he followed the Sconics and he said he had a 12 game packet or something like that. I asked him about Lewis and he said "he is the type of player every championship team needs". "Can not lead you to a championship, but does all the little stuff". A lot like Robert Horry. Not comparing his game to Horry's, but can shoot from outside if left alone, can take it to the rack if the opportunity presents itself, not a "defensive stopper" but gets the job done, can get a key rebound, can make the shot with the game on the line. "Needs to be the third best player on the team". Now I want him. Wishy Washy huh.
well if nachbr gets injured, its over will morris get us a ring? heck no and btw,you want a dribbling defense sf,yet you dont want odom, thats weird
If Odom did not have the baggage he would be perfect for this team. I would be willing to take Odom if we could get him for something like Moochie and KT....or Cato and KT....but not at the expense of the big 4....Cat, Francis, Griff, Ming. DaDakota
The Rockets would be a better team with Lewis, which is half the reason Dallas wants him. The other half of the reason Dallas wants him is because they will be a better team with him also. It's all a ploy though, Seattle is going to give him his money, and probably more than he deserves. If he wants to come for the MCE then let him come or if Seattle is fool enough to take Taylor in a S&T then you have to make the trade. Other wise I like our team just like it is even though I've never seen Nachbar play. This seems like the longest offseason in History.
