This is staring to creep into politics and everyday life as folks are taking one side or the other. What do you belive? Did god create the world in a short period of time and it's around 6,000 years old. Or do you belive scientists and it's around 4.5 billion years old. discuss...
I haven't thought about it alot because I don't really care. Neither answer would strengthen/weaken my faith.
I dunno... It would be the ultimate show of faith, but I personally don't think God would play a sadistic game like that after giving us the brain power that would inevitably lead us to believe otherwise.
Well, I guess it could be viewed as an ultimate show of faith, which I can respect. But, in my opinion, I think it would be the ultimate show of stupidity. You cannot argue against scientific evidence that proves the world is older than 6,000 years. It IS fact. Can't people be humble enough to alter their religious beliefs if it is something as foolish as believing the world isn't as old as it really is. People who really believe that it's 6,000 years old are ignoring the truth, and that is ignorant to me.
Think about it this way poster. If God created the world, it could very well be any amount of years and not make any amount of sense to any of us.
It's unfortunate, but Christianity and the church are filled with lots of mistruths and inaccuracies. The Bible as we know it has been translated, re-translated(often inaccurately), re-written, and edited so many times. Somtimes by people with different agendas than producing the truth. Early Christianity was full of infighting (sometimes violent) among people who believed different things. In that way, it's similar to what we see from Muslims. But as we know, History is written by the winners. I believe in the overall story and teachings. But knowing it's history, it's hard to look at the Bible as 100% factual and I don't think believing that makes me any less a Christian.
i have no problem calling anyone who thinks the world is 6,000 years old an idiot. none whatsoever. might as well move this now.
I believe the 7 days described in Genesis are a man's interpretation of the events that God set off to create the world...OR...God really did use 7 days, but 7 days to God are millions or billions of years to a human. I have no problem with the scientific dating of the Earth, those billions of years it took to terraform were just a couple of days to God.
