I didn't see the game between Milwaukee and Philly, but sometimes I do wonder about games, particularly in the NBA. Does anyone else remember in Game 6 between the Lakers and Pacers last year when Bryant got foul calls on two consecutive possessions when he got blocked? Both of those calls were *very* iffy, imo, and replay seemed to show no foul had occurred. Michael Jordan's last play, the amazing # of fouls called against Seattle in the 93 playoffs against Phoenix. Sometimes, it really makes you wonder... I don't *really* think the NBA fixes the games. But sometimes I wonder if they tell the refs "remember, this is for the fans... if Michael Jordan commits a foul on a big play, please overlook it." I have trouble believing that refs on their own would give the star players so much leeway. I mean, if the NBA really has quality control, wouldn't they crack down on this? So, anyone else remember any games they think were fixed (any sport)? ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... Phil Gramm: "If Democrats could, they'd tax the air we breathe." I read about the 1919 World Series. They said that was fixed and they threw 8 players out of the league because of it. Hmmmmmm...maybe we could get Kobe thrown out of the NBA ------------------ One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.
With the lack of calls on Shaq I'd say it happens quite often. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. My Mockumentary atheistalliance.org
Where have you been mars? Every game that the Houston Rockets lost was rigged! jeez! Man, I got one word for you: CONSPIRACY Oh and two more: Jack Neese ------------------
Drexler getting thrown out of that game in the playoffs in Phoenix really made me wonder. I agree...I doubt the games are rigged..but I wouldn't doubt if they did have the refs stack the deck a little by calling fouls in certain ways. I mean, refs can slow down a game or make it reach a certain pace that would benefit one team more than the other. Basketball and baseball seem easier to rig to me than football. Calling certain pitches (see the career of Tom Glavine) can change the course of a game in a big way. ------------------
very true on the glavine thing. But, do you remember that "strike" to Mcgriff that ended the nlcs in 97 ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
The one that hurts the worst still has me wondering. Remember the '98 NFC Wild Card Game between Green Bay and San Francisco? Whenever people talk about that game, all I hear is "Owens, Owens, Owens" because of that 25 yard strike as time expired from Steve Young. But, and I still have this on tape, does anyone remember what happened 3 plays before that? Young passed to Rice, and Jerry fumbled. Clearly. His knee was over a foot from the ground when the ball came out. But, the officials ruled that the whistle had blown (which I sure never heard), so the play was ruled dead. And, moments later, Green Bay's season is over. Rigged? Who knows. But it seems awfully strange that an obvious call was taken back in the final minute of a game based on a whistle accidentally blowing it dead, esp. a whistle I couldn't hear. ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor and Jason Collier fan club!
