Stress is something all of us are familiar with especially when we get older and take on more resbonsibilities in our daily lives. It could be something as simple as watching a Rocket's game, worried about your grade or it could be something more serious like your marriage, health problems and even managing your money. So, how much stress do you guys get daily?
I get stress all the time. I fight it with consumables. thegary...I have two of those on the wall of my office. Both of them have nasty facial greasespots right on the bullseye from people constantly walking into my office to bang their head. Seriously, sometimes I think the place I work at is a Dilbert cartoon come to life....on acid!
The only thing that really stresses me out is money. Work's never really given me any problems. Partly because I've had the world's most stress-free job for the past five years, but partly because I love being busy and rushed because it makes the workday go by so much faster.
I think in grad school we called it "bimodal". Sadly, I end up on the stress side of the curve, though I don't consider myself an extreme case. I wish things didn't bother me as much. Oh well. Here's what was posted in my old apartment manager's office: Why Worry? Either you are sick, or you are well. If you're well, then there's nothing to worry about. If you are sick, Either you will get better or you will die. If you get better, then there's nothing to worry about. If you die, Either you go to heaven or you go to hell. If you go to heaven, then there's nothing to worry about. And if you go to hell, You'll be so busy shaking hands with old friends, you won't have time to worry!
i'd like to use this excuse to cite my VERY FAVORITE Bible passage: Matthew 6:25-34 (Jesus said): "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
The are so many stress management business's in Houston that we should be the least stressed out people in the country.
well i barely do research or work so i get very little stress from that or the bigger things in life (money, health, etc) but i tend to let lots of other things stress me out. watching sports i always start getting pissed at one thing or another. playing basketball, i find myself getting mad at teammates (well not at them, i try to keep it to myself so everyone doesn't hate me). and then there's driving. ain't nothin' stresses me out like driving. i just can't sit back and relax and drive. i like driving, just not with other people on the road. i would rather take 30 minutes to get to school every time if it was on a wide open road w/ no cars and no cops than the 15 minutes it takes w/ other cars and worrying about my speed. i wouldn't even drive all that fast, maybe just 85 or 90. but damn it would be fun. but unfortunately that's not how it works so i get stressed out. so combining those two things, i put moderate stress.
