I read in a lot of places that the chances of Yao being healthy next season is very low due to the Olympics. Will the Olympics affect him a lot? Does that mean that we may not have another healthy season next year?
No one knows. At this point all anyone can provide is some inane speculation. We'll all see when the season comes around.
some wish that the chinese will advance pretty far, so yao can be in his dominant form coming training camp. some wish that the chinese will be dominated so yao can rest.
I think it will help him get into game shape sooner, but unfortunatley it will start the rigors of the season early for his body. I would say more bad than good overall in a physical longevity standpoint. It will help the Rox in terms of being able to play through him earlier and possibly win more ball games at the beginning of the season because his game will be at a pretty high level relative the rest of the team due to the high level of comp in the olympics. Yao is my favorite Rox player so im kinda pumped about being able to watch him in Aug, but I wouldnt mind waiting if it would prolong his durability .
I think it's good. He'll have enough time to rehab and play some meaningless games leading up to the Olympics just to get his timing/conditioning back. After that, it's a maximum of 6 games right? I can see it being helpful. Does anyone know how much rest (if any) there will be between the Olympics and Training camp?
Yea this is REALLY good, he gets warmed up for the regular season and doesn't come back all washed up
Well at least all the other international players have to endure the same thing. Which means that Ginobili, Nocioni, Dirk, Yi, Vujavic, Boki, Navarro, Calderon etc. will all be tired come the NBA season. We will have to see how this all plays out next year.
The Olympics will be over in August. He will have two months before the season starts. That is plenty time to rest.
I am not sure how tired they really would be. Even the team reaches the final will play like 8 games. That's only a bit more than ONE playoff series.
Because he missed the last 25 games of the season, I think the Olympics are a good thing for Yao (if he doesn't get injured). If he had played a full regular season and 2 or 3 rounds in the playoffs, the Olympics would be bad for him IMO.
He's probably going to be slow, sluggish, and get hurt again. If u go and check, most guys that play after the olympics kinda get some nagging injury or struggles a bit. Not to mention we're talking about a not so well condidtioned, injury prone 300lbs player. All things being considered, the quicker they lose, they better for Yao's health.
Well China will probably make the final 8 teams. Then they have to play the entire tournament right? It's a different schedule in the Olympics. It's round robin not single elimination.
do what shaq did back in la. rest for 1 month before the playoff then use a few games to get into game shape, but this is based on we are going to be in a good playoff position in the west.
That's funny...he never comes back slow and sluggish from China. He usually comes back better and stronger and gets off to a fast start. If you are going to make a statement...make an educated one. Not some crap you just pulled out your a**
all i want is for yao to not get another injury. hopefully he does well and gain a lot of confidence going into next season.
Actually it will be elimination games beyond the group play. Here are scedules I pulled from the Olympic site: http://en.beijing2008.cn/news/sports/headlines/basketball/n214380828_2.shtml 3. Quarterfinals: August 20, 2008: Game 65: B2 vs. A3 Game 66: A1 vs. B4 Game 67: A2 vs. B3 Game 68: B1 vs. A4 4. Semifinals: August 22, 2008: Game 71: Winner 65 vs. Winner 66 Game 72: Winner 67 vs. Winner 68 5. Finals: August 24, 2008: Game 75 (12:00): Loser 71 vs. Loser 72 (3 - 4) Game 76 (14:30): Winner 71 vs. Winner 72 (1 - 2)
The Olympics will not affect Yao much if everything is as expected. The only worry is the unexpected events i.e. injury.
