With Mcgrady already locked up into a long-term deal, the Rockets organization should now focus on extending Yao Ming's contract even though he still has a year left. Even though Yao Ming is having a good year, people think he still has not met his expectations, so when we do sign Yao Ming (which we will), how much do you think he should make, since most of player's contracts in Rockets history has haunted us.
The max is only about 13 mil/year now(as it's been for about 7 years...yet people still assume that LeBron will be demanding 30 mil/year) so that's probably what he'll make. The Rockets are putting their future in Yao and T-Mac. They'll be hoping for draft steals for a long time.
We honestly don't know what the max he will be able to receive is. That will be determined with a new collective bargaining agreement (hopefully this summer). Yao will get the max of what the league allows, but the Rockets aren't allowed to negotiate until the offseason for an extension.
As a player he is in my opinion in the middle of the pack when compared to other big men. Duncan, O'neal, the other O'Neal, Stoudamire, Miller, KG, among others i must be forgetting. But revenue wise he should and will probably get the max because of the buzz he has created here in Houston and in bigger Asian communities when the Rockets go play away games. And don't forget the upside and the untapped potential that are in him, its just a matter of him realizing it.
As Jeff said- when the new cba is in place - hopefully-I think we should pay the max the cba allows. If we do not -somebody will..
You should offered another choice: < 1 million. The Rockets should ask him to accept veteran minimum or show him the door.
I think that would actually be close to the max nba salary. About 1.3 billion people would mean 13 million per year.
I love the people who think yao doesnt deserve the max because he is underproven what some think he should he is avg. 18 and 9 that sounds pretty decent to me at least he is avg. something good instead of the rox signing someone to a huge contract because of 1 game preseason game (see:Kelvin Cato and his blocked shots) but face it guys yao is going to get the max no matter what you think so quit b****ing and when the championships come you'll be jumping on the bandwagon.
"You want to know Yao's value, have Houston put him up for trade and watch 29 general managers who are saying he is not as good as he should be all jump at him." ----Heat Coach Stan Van Gundy Did above quote answer ur question?
