I know there are some on here who enjoy and have enjoyed having George W. Bush as president and I know there are some who feel completely opposite. There are probably some who are indifferent about his terms as president.

I am posing this question to all parties though. There are many things that are worrisome in the world today; record breaking gas/oil prices, skyrocketing food costs, credit crunch, housing slump, other economics problems, unrest in many parts of the world, etc.

My question is how much of the blame would you put on Bush and his administration? The policies and people they have put in place, their actions while in office, and so on? Please tell your reasons and vote in the included poll.

I guess TJ, basso, and texxx haven't read this thread because there are no votes for the lower options or maybe they just don't care. I was really looking forward to seeing what each side had to say about the issue. :(

I don't really like the options. Things happen under every president and every president faces challenges they never expected.

What is unique about this administration is that they rarely seem to make the situation better. They have an uncanny ability to make the absolute worst possible decision.

Add to that the fact that their priorities are so skewed and you have a disastrous presidency from which it will take this country at least a generation of effort and money to even reasonably recover.

Inherited a falling economy from Clinton
    9-11 hit
    War on Terror hit
Corporate fraud scandals (Enron, Worldcom, etc)
    Credit crunch and housing crisis
Global commodity price boom due to China and India's growth

Umm.... yeah, not sure how you can expect the last 8 years to be anything but rocky given these exogenous shocks.

I think the question is way too broad. Bush certainly carries some of the blame for these items, but so do a lot of other people.

The credit crunch and the housing slump can probably be blamed partly on Greenspan for keeping interest rates too low for too long, partly on greedy individuals who are obsessed with keeping with Joneses, and partly on greedy bankers who are obsessed with staying way in front of the Joneses.

High oil and food prices are caused by a lot of factors, but the recent major factor is the decrease in the value of the dollar caused by the Fed increasing liquidity. So the blame is really on the same individuals as above. I think it is way too early to know if the Fed's actions were proper to save us from the greater evil of a depression. I tend to think the Fed acted appropriately and I hope the Fed seems some strenghthening of the economy soon and get the interest rates back a little higher so a stronger dollar can reduce some of the inflation.

Regarding unrest in the rest of the world, there has always been unrest in the rest of the world and there always will be. The policies of the United States probably contribute to some of that unrest, especially in the Middle East, but a lot of those policies pre-date Bush. Bush has just compounded some of the problems that already existed.
