...and why are we not trying to get Wilcox. Seems like he isn't asking for much 24 mil or so (not much in basketball standards).
he's asking for 10M a year (a muti-year contract).... so there isnt any possibility we could sign him
how much money do we have left from our MLE? b/c, according to the Sacramento Bee, the Rocky Mountain News is implying that Bonzi might be available for cheap for one season. can someone say '3rd Scorer in a Contract Year?' http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblog...ves/003585.html "Perhaps, as the Rocky Mountain News has suggested, he’ll take a one-year contract at the $3 million-per-year range with the Denver Nuggets to, essentially, delay his free agency and try again next offseason." true, Denver has more than us, but $3M sounds a lot closer to our price range than $6M-8M. maybe then, finally, half of the BBS, me included would shut the hell up about needing a 3rd scorer.
Let see. He wants a deal for around 3 years 24 million, and we have enough money to give him a three year deal worth about 6 million. Um yeah. I don't think this is going to work out.
We could give him a deal with our TE starting at $4.3 million, and for longer years, but that's unlikely to fly, unless the market dries up. (that has happened before to FAs, so you never know) Of course, his current team would have to cooperate for that to even be considered. Nope, looks highly unlikely.
so we have $2M left from the MLE? btw - i didn't say it was gonna happen, in fact it definitely won't. i just said that "$3M sounds a lot closer to our price range than $6M-8M." even if we did have $6M-8M, i'd prefer to put together a deal for K9 Thomas before we tried to get Bonzi. PF is still the position we need rugged rebounding + outside shooting from, and, thus, I consider it a higher priority than SG/SF.
I don't think we have anything left from the MLE. A good portion of it was used to sign Spanoulis. The rest was used to add a third year to the contracts of Lucas and Novak. I believe that is accurate. As a result, all we have is the trade exception. If the Rockets don't see a player right now to use the TE, they have until February, I believe, before it becomes void.
I put our MLE at about $2 million after Lucas and Novak. It's a guesstimate to be sure, but it's an educated guesstimate at least: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=116086
My estimate is Span took 1.7-1.8 mil (based on an almost 6mil deal with 300K buyout), Lucas around 800K, and Novak zero (I think he has a min deal). So that would leave about 2.5-2.6 mil left. It is possible another more is gone for Novak (leaving like 2 mil left) to pay him at tad more than his min or offer 3rd year --but I don't see any evidence of anything other than a 2 year min deal from Patricia Bender or Realgm cites--usually pretty accurate. I am confident we have no worse than close to 2 mil left in the MLE, probably a tad over 2.5 mil.
Actually, we signed novak to a 3 year deal. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Novak_signs_contract-185529-822.html?rss=true We probably have a tad bit under 2mil left. Maybe about 1.9mil. Think that would be enough to get Melvin Ely? a backup PF/C, and at a 1.9m contract could easily be an add on to a trade. Or best case scenario, he's a solid backup and sticks w/ the rockets.
What is weird is I have seen 2 year contract referenced a lot: www.realgm.com www.dfw.net/~patricia/index.html www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/rox/4072355.html But your above link is the Rockets official cite, so I would assume it is accurate. So most probably 1.9 to 2 mil if left in the MLE, I agree.
The Rockets should try and get Kareem Rush, the dude is a shooter and something we need to acomodate Yao Ming and T-Mac, because he will most likely get lots of open lookers.
