I was at the store the other day and the guy ahead of me pulled out a roll of 100's to pay for his groceries. I can't believe people would carry around that much cash in today's world of check cards, credit cards, and internet banking. When I used to work at a bank, people would come in and cash (not deposit) their payroll checks every Friday. The line would stretch out the door and no one would deposit them. I don't know, I never carry more than $20 cash in my wallet. I pay for gas and lunch every day on my credit card (which I pay off in full every month) and I use my Visa check card for everything else. I pay all my bills online. I can't remember the last time I paid cash for anything. I think it was for parking downtown a few weeks ago. How much cash do you guys carry around?
Never carry more than a couple of bucks at a time on me. I use my Discover card for everything ....(cash back bonus )
Up until recently, $0. I used my check card for everything. Now that I'm playing more gigs and seeing more shows, I might carry $10 or $20. I don't like to carry around a lot.
I stopped using Credit and Debit cards a while ago. All too often, I'd go out and spend waaayyy more than I wanted to. These days, I carry an ATM card and $0-100 in cash. That way, at least I have to make a conscious decision to pull more money out at night.
I usually never even have a dollar because I use a check card. I get cash out if I go to a bar though because I got sick of bartenders trying ro rip me off when I open a tab on a card. The final straw was drinking at a place with 75 cent you-call-it's. I only had 4 drinks, but at the end of the night the bartender tried to say my tab was about $25.
Always carry at least 3-4 hundred.......because... you never know when you will get a good tip on a horse and you never know when a good craps game will break out being serious by the way
I'm always shocked when I go to a place that doesn't take credit or check cards. But I generally carry around $20 - $40 for those ocassions.
I'm trying to keep the plastic business from taking over my life... I usually carry around between $10-100 depending on when I've been to the ATM. I eat most lunches and dinners in the cafeteria at work, which seems to want me to pay cash right now. (still, $4 all you can eat if you work there) You always want a few dollars for vending machines, etc. I'm one of those people who usually resists advancing technology for as long as possible. I just recently started using a debit card after resisting it for years. Finally decided it was easier than using a credit card because at least the debit card goes ahead and hits you immediately instead of running up your bill. I just feel that it's easier to pay cash for small stuff like meals and short shopping trips instead of making someone bill you for it later.
Usually 10-40 bucks on me. By the way discover sucks, I use Visa by a local grocery store and get 1% back . Discover won't even give me 0.5% when I was using it before
