On the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11 touching down there are still a lot of people who think it never happened. For the record I am not one but am curious to get a sense of how many do. Do you think it was faked, yes or no? Also if you don't mind please explain why you think it was faked? Mods please move this to the D & D if you think this is too controversial for Hangout.
I don't think you can edit to add a poll, you just have to make a new thread and the mods will lock this one or let it die.
Faked? www.dictionary.com About the moon landing though, I think it was pretty real.. EDIT: I guess it is a word... unusual though... don't really hear many people use it..
I don't think it was faked. Funny story... I used to be in Amway. It got very, very cultish with them telling us not to hang out our old friends because they weren't winners, etc. Then I went to this one convention at the George R. Brown and one of their really high up folks was speaking. Somehow he got off on a tangential rant about the moon landing and how it was fake. He was totally passionate about it even though it had nothing to do with Amway. Anyway, I turned around right at that point and never went back.
It would seem hard to believe they got a man on the moon with a ti-83 calculator, but I guess it just goes to show you how much smarter they must have been.
Yeah.. but in this context... it just seems really odd and out of place.. haven't really heard it in this sense, like asked in a question... I don't know.. I guess I need to refresh my vocab skills. You're about 2 weeks late on that.
True story: my Dad, a horn-rimmed glasses & pocket-protector-wearin', slide-rule swingin' NASA engineer during the Apollo missions, never got his own mother to believe the moonshots were real. She died right after the first moon landing, and she died still telling him she thought it was all fake. Kind of sweet and sad at the same time. A really good telescope, I believe, can find evidence of the moonwalks, so, um... that's some pretty expensive fakery!
Whatever "new" photos being brought out by NASA are as fake as the photoshop that brought us Obama's US birth certificates.
I can say I never doubted it until it was brought up again, recently. The fact that this has been so controversial combined with NASA "conveniently" recording over the original videos (I mean Really?!?) has had me questioning it for the first time.
I don't know if it was faked. Not sure what to believe about what the government tells us. I would have to see proof. But the Shuttles go up all the time, so it's not like we're not in space, and that had to start somewhere. I think everyone who had an experience with Amway has some crazy stories. I had several encounters with them. I was a door-to-door salesman in college and after running into their houses a few times, I could tell the Amway folks within a minute. They always had that crazy, glossed over fake look when they would start their reverse-pitch on me. And they never bought anything either. I dated a girl who's father was in Amway. I got sucked into an Amway pitch session by this old retired MD. His big selling point was how big an RV you could buy if you reached diamond status. Not important to a 21 year old guy. He pretty much ignored me anyway, which was another mistake. Lastly, a guy I knew professionally in another department at UT Galveston tried to hook me in a few years ago. His whole line was 'can I practice some of my sales stuff on you for my new business?'. He had pitched my boss with the same crap a few months earlier, so I was wise to it. I told him that I wasn't interested in a multi-layered business opportunity and he blew up at me and told me that I was wrong, blah blah. I've learned over the years that liars are the worst when busted in a lie.
