Probably could pull the trigger on it.

Bullsh*t. The draft order has not been established. Of course, the Rockets could have negotiated this deal with the teams who could possibly get the 5th pick (teams in the pre-ball slots #2, #3, #4, and #5) but that is highly unlikely.

I would do that deal in a second. We would get a great future sf in Darius Miles plus we sign Danny Fortson who is a very good player that can score and rebound.

Ok...I'll ask. How do you plan on signing Fortson? Is he going to sign for the $2.3M exception? If so, are you sure that you won't need that exception in order to resign Mobley?

I'm with No Worries. I can't imagine that deal even being discussed until the lottery positions are finalized. At the moment there are several teams who could pick fifth who may or may not like Kenny.

The deal itself is tough. There are still good players that would be available if we picked ninth. Would anyone at pick five be worth two players, Kenny and #9? What if Miles or Miller are available at nine, which is certainly possible? Would, say, Moiso be worth both Kenny AND Miller, for instance? Tough call. I'd have to say no, for now.

    Now, 3rd pick, that's a different matter.

Now do you see the price of winning our way out of good lottery position?

If Kenny plus pick #9 gets us pick #5, then the price of those late-season wins was Kenny.

It would depend on how much we sign Fortson for.

Kenny has proven himself worthy and is signed to an inexpensive contract and I do not want the Rockets to lose any available cap space coming up in the next few years to an unproven player(Darius Miles).

We may have lost good position, but in a BAD draft. I just don't see the talent there like in previous years.

aelliot - you make me laugh.

Don't you know that Fortson will sign for 300k, Mobes will sign for 1 mil, We will trade Kenny, Cato and some airline peanuts to SA for Duncan and Robinson, and then Hakeem will play for free and use his salary to buy McGrady for a few seasons.

Then, we will be in the finals!

A William Do Tell, we continue to disagree:

The real PRIZE of winning those games, may be ..... respect. And, tangibly that just may be the difference between what some available players ...... like, say .... Cuttino, J.Rose, Tim Duncan, etc... who will be offered Mega Bucks to play with some teams, but wants to play with a class outfit and is willing to take less bucks to do that. Hello .... Houston "Class" Rockets!!!!

So, if the Rockets had tanked and KT had made zero progress and was totally clueless about NBA basketball, the Rockets would be better off?

They would have a much better shot at the #5 pick and still have KT who wouldn't have developed much at all. Cat would be less inclined to stick around with a dud organization that could only muster 17 wins.
They would look less appealing to somebody that they could possibly sign to a free agent contract in the future.

I see it as more than having KT or not having KT.

I like KT and although Miles is good he's unproven, I would rather keep Kenny and work with him. Kenny had a good rookie year and showed a good ability to board and pass. You also have to remember that Kenny didn't even play solid minutes until January. The Rockets just need some time with players they have, they won't turn into a championship team overnight but building around thier young core is a must. I know it sounds the same every post but it's true.

Can someone please explain to me the fascination with Darius Miles? We discussed early in the preseason (when we had both Mclean and Bullard) about having too many of the same type of players. It doesn't only apply to shooters, but penetrators. We already have Shandon, Mobley, and Francis...that's more penetration than most contenders have. We need big men. We need shooters who can do other things as well. We need Shandon-type players who can defend, and hustle.

The last thing we need is another guy who can put the ball on the floor, can't shoot, and is a ways away from contributing.

Cabbage, wasn't it you who wanted McGrady? The reason for the fascination with him is they are so similar. Both are big guys(6'9") who can handle the ball, both have massive hops, both are defensive studs, both run the court well, and both don't have an outside shot. Now, with us not being able to get McGrady, why not go after Miles who's very similar?

When a PF has stats that look like this:

    FG% - .399
    3PT% - .262
    FT% - .660

Then he better be getting around 10+ rebounds a game, or blocking 3 shots a game, or dishing out 8+ assists a game, or getting 3 steals a game or something. If not, then I don't care what you do with him.

Cabbage - I think rocketsfan34 got you there. You wanted Mcgrady all along and this is the chance to get another mcgrady type player. Also Miles can shoot the ball alot better than Mcgrady can.

But cabbage you brought up some good points. Which player do you think can fit this team?

McGrady-First of all, if we were going to get McGrady, we'd be giving up Mobley...losing one penetrator, and gaining another one. Also, McGrady is already a proven player, ready to contribute. He is an excellent shot blocker for a guard, and has the potential to be an above average defender. You're wrong about his shooting. He has a little medium range jumper he takes sometimes, off the dribble. Miles has no shot whatsoever.

If you're talking about small forwards, I think Rashard Lewis would also be a nice fit. He has a very nice shot, and hangs around the basket for loose boards. I seriously doubt we'll get him though.

I would be content with a Bryon Russell type of guy at the small forward. A good defender/shooter who brings energy to the game.

Don't bring another star in to the perimeter. Get a star big man.

In college he was measured at 6'6, so when they measure him in the nba he will probably be around 5'10. [IMG]

I'd risk that trade RF34, if it did include some knowledge that Fortson would come our way, later. I might even fudge on my percentages in getting Fortson, because we still have TMass and Rogers.

    TMass can play!

So, you think Miles will go in the 5th spot, eh.

Here's a question for our most passionate draft man:

RF34: By making that trade, you might be giving up a chance at trading down for Wallace and keeping KT, then trading KT later if Wallace looks promising.

oh about that...you heard anything about Wallace's projected draft position?
