Like the title says how many of you guys just gave up due to the traffic. After going 11 miles in three hours I turned back.
My family didnt even try to get out, their still stuck. If the traffic lets up any then their gone. I'm up in Nacogdoches at SFA and I dont know if I should wait it out here or go up to my aunts house in Longview.
We were gonna leave until we saw the conditions on the roads this afternoon....that combined with the jog tot he north have encouraged us to ride it out. My next door neighbor was packed and ready...but decided that he would rather ride it out than get caught out in it since we wanted to take the back roads headed east.
I didn't try to leave. My wife left at four this morning with her 36 year old friend who is eight months pregnant with twins. They had two different Texas maps and my wife's vehicle has a really nice GPS system. They also had me on the cell phone with the Internet. They took back roads themselves on the way to Dallas. They just gave up about thirty minutes ago, and are heading back. They made it as far as Lake Conroe.
My friend lives in Lake Conroe and it's taken them over 3 hours to go less than 15 miles ~ they're staying on the back roads. Ug. At this point people need to stay put - the hurricane is projected to hit much farther up the coast between the LA-Tex border.
my aunt and two cousins turned back becuase they got about 20 ft. in 5 hrs. they are going to try later tonight...i hope they make it. they live in pasadena, which is sure to flood.
I was about to leave then made tit to I-10 and and got to see that the overpass wasnt moving for the 10 mins I was at the light I said "**** THAT!!" and turned around I may try again later if the storm shifts back our way and it gets any better going toward Austin..
Starting out in Magnolia: 1488 W to FM 362 N to 105 W to Navasota ...HWY 6 N past Bryan/CS to Hearne ...W on Highway 79 into Round Rock
This might be a bad time to criticize our officials, but I am kind of mad at the planning of our officials. I am sure they had to realize that getting 1.5 million people out all at once was going to cause hell. All the disaster movies tell us that when there is mass evacuation for a city there is going to be very little movement. Isn't there a way they could have evacuated the city piece by piece or at least come up with some evacuation routes that didn't cause mass congestion. Maybe I should have left earlier, but its easier to blame someone else.
I'm at I-10 and Kirkwood and I have potential landing spots in Navasota and Austin. I-10 looks better now...should I consider making the trek? I have 3/4 of a tank of gas in my SUV.
Codell, where in Magnolia are/were you? My whole family is there. My dad and his whole family are staying in my uncle's large brick house off of 149, and my sister's staying with my grandma, more towards Decker Prarie off 1774/249. I'm just wondering out of curiosity.... You evacuated for good?
