How you feel about the game? Gamespot gives it a 8.3/10 rating, which isn't as good as the last installment. Their review says the 10-player motion and defense are fun but the animation, draft and dribbling mechanism aren't good...Do you feel the same way?

I need a game for this weekend, should I go for Live2004?

IMO it's a lot better than last year's. The defense is tough and there's a lot of new features (like the Live Bios, a revamped dynasty mode and the new NBA store). I gotta agree that the dribbling can look kind of wierd sometimes, but that's a really minor aspect of the game that you can easily look over. Also, if you thought last year's game was too fast, the have a slide-meter to adjust the speed of the game.

I would go for it if I were you. If you liked last year's at all, you'll love this one.

Still waiting impatiently for the PC version. :-/

Looking at the reviews, it sounds promising. But I'm I the only one that thinks the character models have been downgraded compared to 2003?

I have 2003 for the PC, and I think the models look better than 2004.

Thanks...I actually didn't play much Live2003 last year.. I was playing 2K3 all the time and I loved it because its stuctured offense and the franchise mode.

How do compare 2k3 and live2004?

Yeah, the player faces look more real (except the one thing i've never liked about Live is that they make Francis waaaay too dark!)

If you're going for realism though, I would have to say wait out for ESPN (aka 2K4). Live is more realistic in past years, but 2K4 is probably still gonna be the king of realism.

i've only seen videos from the net, but i think it looks much better than last year. according to my friend the gameplay is still too arcade like. hopefully i'll play it tonight and find out firsthand.

most likely i'll be waiting for espn basketball.

what you need to understand when buying a bball videogame (when looked at recent trends):

Sega's NBA 2K series (or ESPN 2k4 this year): A LOT more realism in that it's really structured and is more of an NBA sim.

EA's Live series: it's fun. not a bonafide sim like 2K series BUT it's A LOT of fun. it's probably because it moves a lot faster.

IMO, both are good. it depends which one you're more after....a real sim or more of a fast pace arcade-esque style.

During one of the player cameo intros for Live, a lot of upper tier players mug for the camera. "I'm Steve Francis. I'm The Matrix. I'm Penny Hardaway." Then out of nowhere..."I'm Moochie Norris". Of course he says this after playing with the ball a little for the camera.

The clip is used stand-alone as an intro as well.

Yep, espn will definitely be better. But since I don't own a console, I'm going to have to settle for Live.

haha. yeah.. i dont have to list everything that espn did better than live. im a live fan up to 2001. ever since i played the 2k series, it changed my mind with live coz live is more arcade-ish. and plus, with this year, i think espn is better than live in every aspect of the game and that's the reason why i only acknowledged espn using the freestyle mode live used coz i know peeps here knows that espn is better and i dont have to point every little detail which in turn, made me look narrow minded.

but in all honesty, if you want the sheer fun factor live wins. i've played the 2k series before and it's very good. EA can't beat how sega sets up the simulation style/franchise mode type of play. but for the fun of just simply playing basketball, it's live.

i agree. live does add a lil twist of fun because of the speed of the gameplay and the arcade-ish style. well, it really comes down to the person whether he wants arcade or real bball simulation.

are they both coming out on the PC or just live?

i prefer realism than graphics or fun.
