simple question after last night's loss how many are avoiding the GARM today? I sure am I probably wont go in there till at least tomorrow morning/afternoon. Just taking a look in there last night after the game just made me sick I dare not look again unless there is some sort of earth shattering rockets news like "Hakeem Olajuwon to suit up and play 5 minutes next game" etc
I guess that would be option two dang I put or instead of but it should have said NOT post but actively read and Lady_Di why do you do that to yourself going in there?
It's so ridiculous in there. I honestly stopped a couple of years ago. What happened to the insightful commentary, the smart back and forth discussions, the very REAL rumors from REAL insiders. The small size and large love/commitment to the team is what made the GARM what it was back in it's hayday. Now it's overrun with people who are willing to hate on any damn thing they can find and they jump to a new topic every week. First it's T-Mac to blame for all our problems, then Yao, then Rafer, now Aaron Brooks and Ron Artest. Come on. Can someone petition Clutch to start a secret rockets society where all we ask is trust, and people are only granted entry by showing knowledge, passion, dedication, and intellect? Also veteran poster status might help as well, because alot of the GARM is overrun with people registered in 2003 and over. Some of em are worth keepin around but alot of them are either yao-only, t-mac only, artest-only and not TEAM oriented at all.
You just have to know HOW to surf it. I don’t go in there until the day after. I would never venture in there right after a game, win or lose. Give the mods time to clean it up. I generally just skip over all rookie posts as well as all posters without a little green dot under their name. I wish there was a way to put them all on ignore. But for now, I just scroll past them without reading their posts. Avoid any thread that is over 5 pages. It’s most likely that long because it’s deteriorated into a silly argument between a few attention seeking posters, usually rookies or those without rep. To tell the truth, I usually avoid any thread over 2 pages for that very reason.
If I think someone had a god-awful game (Brooks) or an amazing one (Scola), where else am I going to give my opinion?
Yeah, I usually go straight to the hang out, then the Texans/Astros thread. The GARM of a few years ago would be embarrassed of what it has become. There are some nuggets of good discussion going on there, but you have to get through so much crap to get to it that it isn't worth it. But that comes when you increase the visitors to the site. You get a bunch of people who have no clue, but willing to tell everyone they are experts. Reminds me of going to a sports bar and end up sitting next to a guy who has no clue about anything, but ready to talk your ear off about whatever game is going on. That is the entire point. People are avoiding the entire section now because on a page there may be 2 or 3 threads that are worth clicking.
I already knew what to expect in the GARM before going in.. Bashing on all the players who had a bad game..We need a pg.. AB was gonna get flamed hardcore.. Negative comments about the Rockets and the bandwagoners losing hope and giving up on the Rockets after a loss in Potland even though were up 3-2 and playing at home next... I couldnt help myself but to check it out LOL Rockets in 6
i do hangout and nba forum. hangout always has some sort of funny or weird thread of the day that i enjoy. nba forum has more mature discussions and less spontaneous threads.
I log in right after. Good laughter. Anyway every team MB is like that after a loss. The Atlanta Falcons Message Board is the exact same way after a loss.
Yes, most of the threads could simply be posts in the post-game thread, but not all. I have a hard time scrolling through a bazillion posts in the post-game thread to find what I might want to talk about in particular. I almost never start threads myself, but some of them deserve to be seperate from the main thread, IMO. Just not 90% of them.
Unfortunately, since I live in TN and not TX, I had no chance of seeing any bit of last night's game (thanks to that damn NBA TV), so I have to rely on the GARM to get any type of feel for how the game went last night. All I know is that we were winning briefly in the 4th quarter and then the Rockets did one of their patented dry spells where they can't do anything right offensively and the other team just drains shot after shot after shot. Apparently from what I have read over in the GARM, Brooks must have been awful and Artest probably heaved a couple of ill-advised shots. Also, Yao probably didn't even come close to touching the ball at the end. I know people have talked about it and complained endlessly about it, but the GARM got hard to read when so many people joined when we drafted Yao. The reputation feature has helped but it can still be hard to scroll through so many useless posts by posters who are still learning how to post effectively. The knee-jerk and reactionary posts are mind-boggling. Maybe if Clutch shut the BBS down for 6 hours after the game is over, the GARM wouldn't have as many emotional posts in it. But guys it could be worse - it could be like the Sons of Sam Horn board which is for Red Sox fans. You actually have to be invited to post and if your posts are judged not to be up to snuff, they boot you. Granted, it makes me think that their moderators work that board 24/7, 365 days a week but that is an example of a board that takes analness to the extreme.
Yeah, but it goes beyond that. I mean... some of us want to have a competent, rational discussion about the Rockets. But with the GARM as it is today, any insightful comments I might post would get lost in the pages and pages of garbage that's there. It discourages me (and others) from posting. So we end up with very few competent posts, and an abundance of garbage.
