just curious on the bbs' opinion on player development.

eddie griffin is the 3rd (or 4th?) youngest player in the nba. his body is still developing. yet, in limited playtime, he has definitely been effective.

given the fact that he needs to be on the court to continue to develop his game (especially in the post), what do you think it would take to give him 20-25 minutes per game?

kt has been playing well. motay is coming back next year (at the latest). glen is our for at least a month. and the season is rapidly slipping away.

how many losses would it take for you to give griff 20+ minutes per game?

my answer: nine games ago...

Well, he played 24 min tonight, so it took 9 losses in a row to give him 20+.

Let's see verse,

We have lost the last 11 games Griffin has played in. (Portland was a DNP because Walt scored 31 points.) In this losing streak, Griffin as made more than one shot 4 times. Rudy rewarded him with:

24 minutes 2-10
19 minutes 4-7
23 minutes 2-5
27 minutes 6-11
-----------------------
23.3 mpg

In the other 7 games, Griffin never made more than one shot and had a combined:

5-34 shooting for a whopping 14.7%

Even still, with that absolutely terrible FG%, Griffin has averaged

17 mpg over his last 11 games.

In fact, Griffin has made 2+ shots in only 2 other games this year.

8 minutes 3-5 in the huge Dallas win by the starters.
27 minutes 4-11

In his 7 remaining games, he is 5-23 for 21.7%. So, in the 14 games he scores 1 or less basket, he is 10-57 for 17.5%. In all the others he averages, 21.33 mpg.

Looks like Griffin pretty much has been getting his shot in the 2nd Q, and Rudy rewards him with more time in the 2nd half, if he'd just make a friggin' basket. Why would he get more time shooting 17%, when there are 4 rookies on the team?

Face it: Rudy is giving him 20-25 mpg if he could make more than 1 shot like Torres. Oh yeah, but I forgot, it is Rudy's fault for making Griffin shoot only 3s, even though Kenny showed low post moves his rookie year running the very same plays as Eddie.

Torres is the more effective player right now because he knows how to play the game better, and so he is getting

22.2 mpg

Rudy will give Eddie minutes, but how does he learn anything by looking lost out there and jacking up every ball thrown to him. Eddie has had one practice in the last 10 games. Deal with it verse ... he doesn't know what he is doing, because the coaches haven't even been able to run him through anything.

Griffin looks horrible. He doesn't look like he wants to dribble or pass. If he could just knock down his shots he would be a steal.

I want to know if Rudy T is trying to make him into Jason Collier, just a big man hitting jumpers? Can he not post anyone or is allowed to post anyone? What is the deal about his practicing only 3ptrs?

At this pace he will never develop, from what I remember players usually don't look this bad as rookies then turn into monster players.

crispee, that's interesting. Do you see the way Rudy's developing Eddie (at least offensively) simlar to the way Rudy's been developing KT?
