It's absurd how much money it takes to fight a war. Our country would be much more secure allocating that money to Hurricane relief and education.
I don't think trhowing more money to either of those problems will solve them. Right now there is approximately $10,000 spent per child in public schools from the government. The problem is that a lot of this doesn't go to help the children. More money isn't the answer it's keeping better track of how it's spent. With regards to the hurricane, the government could spend a little more but let's just not throw money at a problem and call it fixed. I think the biggest thing is to make sure once again that the money goes where it should.
i wholeheartedly agree. Audit: U.S. lost track of $9 billion in Iraq funds http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/01/30/iraq.audit/ Audit shows $8.8 billion in Iraq funds missing http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5763483/ too bad the republican controlled congress continues to block investigations into what happened to all that cash.
In case you missed it, this is over and above the 440 billion or so asked for in the QDR for 2006 and another 440 billion in 2007 Meanwhile, back in the batcave, 440 billion dollars and Pentagon must still retire 40% of our B-52 force, the U-2, the F-117 Nighthawk and assorted other platforms. Where the HELL is all this money going? I haven't read the entire QDR, but a fair amount and it's just being vaporised- poof! half a trillion a year... restructuring, the DDX, Virginia class Submarine, 5 BILLION for the Joint Strike Fighter?!?!? Can someone please explain why we need the JSF? It's a 257 BILLION dollar program as currently projected which will undoubtedly go up and is 6-7 years away from deployment. Most of that money will go into development for a plane far less capable than the F-22 that is in service NOW. Seperate the cost of development (paid for when refering to the Raptor) from procurement- then compare the F-22 to JSF. Take a look at the capabilities of each plane and the JSF makes no sense whatsoever... except of course as a money maker for the defense industry.
Yes which is why John Kerry voted for the 87 billion dollar bill that had accountability of where the money would be spent, and voted against the 87 billion that didn't. Well the other bill won, and John Kerry was mocked for voting for it, before he voted against it. Too bad that other people couldn't see that Kerry was correct in his votes, and we didn't have it Kerry's way. That would be 9 billion more dollars put to good use instead of wasted.
