I read that it is best to sleep in increments of 90 minutes. So something like either 4.5 hours, 6 hours or 7.5 hours? Here is some free literature talking about why I should sleep in intervals of 90 minutes: http://www.glenrhodes.com/?p=132 Does anyone follow this advice?
I was watching this show once on a channel and it was talking about how the 7th and 8th hour is the most crucial point... you're in a deep sleep between those hours and that 8 hours is the best amount of sleep. That's all I really know.. I'm lucky to get 4 hours of sleep every night, I think I'm an insomniac... but college does that to you.
5-6 hours is enough for me. I feel sorry for people that need more. Sleeping 7-8 hours every day seems like such a huge waste of time. But if you need that much, so be it.
i actually heard it was increments of 3 hours? and i have personally noticed i wake up and turn at 4 am a lot.
I'm with the insomniacs... about 4.5 - 5 hours is just about right... speaking of which.. I should be headed to that right now I will have to see if I turn or slightly wake up every 90 minutes though. would be cool to know what the optimal amount of sleep for me actually is.
Get a FitBit or a SleepTracker or a Zeo (?). Those measure your restlessness to determine your sleep cycle and the latter two shift the alarm time to wake you as you're coming out of REM. I tried one a few years ago and it was meh, but the guy I borrowed it from said it changed his life.
Since I'm not Leonardo DaVinci or Tesla. I just sleep a normal 6 1/2 to 8 hrs max. Anymore than 8hrs I get a migraine.
I don't know if this is scientifically sound, but I feel sleeping enough to wake naturally is enough. If you need an alarm clock to get up, then you're not sleeping enough.
You can sleep all you want when you're dead, jk. I have weird sleeping habits. Some days I only sleep a few hours and others I could sleep for 14. I think my stress level affects how much sleep I get. The more stressed out I am, the less I am able to sleep.

Well considering the time you are posting this message, I say that you are pretty stressed. I take it that the lovely vivi is back in chow's life, no?
I have to be at work at 5:30A every morning, so that means I wake up at 4:30. Have to be in bed by 10P in order to get my 6 hours/night. It sucks. Back when I was in b-school getting my MBA I used to party every night till like 3AM, then wake up at 11AM for class at 12:30P. Those were good times.
6 hours is a good number. Sometimes I can even get by on 5. Anything more than 6 and I tend to wake up feeling like crap. If I nap, I never do it for more than 30 minutes... anything longer than that and I wake up feeling like I've been drugged.
